Although we are currently seeing many modern cars, there is still a large part of the private car fleet that circulates on our beloved and battered roads and avenues. It is not in vain that Havana and all of Cuba are also known for being rolling museums.
Returning to my friend's car, the classic smell of petroleum that these devices carry inside, in the living room, is another characteristic of Cuban transportation. Reci茅n me visit贸 un amigo que tiene un "almendr贸n" (carro americano de las d茅cadas de los 40 y 50) y me hizo un cuento casi incre铆ble de lo que le pas贸 en su carro. Resulta que se le cay贸 el tanque de combustible del carro en medio de la calle, literal, se le desprendi贸 en plena marcha. Y es que es dif铆cil mantener un auto que ya celebra su 75 cumplea帽os. Aunque la mayor铆a de estos autos tienen motores m谩s modernos lo dem谩s sigue siendo rancio, remachado, reconstruido varias veces. Aunque actualmente se est谩n viendo muchos autos modernos todav铆a queda una gran parte del parque de autos privados que circula por nuestras queridas y maltrechas carreteras y avenidas. No en vano a La Habana y toda Cuba se les conoce tambi茅n por ser museos rodantes.
Volviendo la carro de mi amigo, el cl谩sico olor a petr贸leo que llevan estos aparatos dentro, en el sal贸n, es otra caracter铆stica del transporte del cubano. Si llegas con olor a petr贸leo a casa, sabemos que viniste en almendr贸n. Otra faceta cl谩sica de estos dinosaurios motorizados es el audio envolvente que pregonan: puro Reguet贸n. 隆Almendr贸n que no cante Reguet贸n no se respeta! 馃お
No todos son as铆, est谩n los almendrones de salir, los bonitos, los fresas, los descapotables, en los que a punto del mediod铆a puedes fre铆r un huevo en el asiento tapizado con vinil.
