Today, I'd like to write on a sensitive topic. People might not see it as too sensitive while it is, in reality. In fact, a person can get depressed for a whole lifetime as a result of conflicting views or confusion by the individual as regards to the two things I would be writing about today. I'll be talking about passion and profession. Just to clarify in points, here are the chief things I would be explaining today.

This topic is actually very close to my heart because I've been so confused multiple times because of it. So, hang in there. I've got you covered for this topic. Alright, let's get right to it.

Passion is anything that someone has a strong enthusiasm and love for. It can be anything from writing stories to collecting stones, as long as it gives a person so much joy and a sense of fulfilment while doing it. A passion is most times (maybe not all the time) what a person can naturally do very well (talent). It's that thing that a person could do all his life and would never get tired of doing.

Profession is an occupation or work a person does for payment which may (or may not) require advanced education and training and formal qualification. So this is basically the job someone does to get some money. It could literally be anything.

Now, the difference between passion and profession is that while profession is something that is done for the sole aim of making a living, passion is done for the sake of fulfilment and happiness. For example, a person who loves dancing so much might have her profession as an accountant.

I remember when I first asked myself this question. That was about a year ago. I was just done with high school and I was in a huge state of confusion. Well, the short answer is YES. Passion can actually become profession. I've seen people that love cooking and all they do is to cook. There are people that love baking and make a living out of it. There are also people that love singing, writing and drawing and they do those things as their full time jobs.

Some people think that passion should be a side thing and it shouldn't really be something that a person should try to do full time. People say this kind of thing at times because they think that making a passion a career will make it less interesting and more of a to-do. Also, others can tell specific people not to try endeavouring into making their passions their full time professions because they believe that it's just not worthy of it. That's actually far from the truth in a way. The truth is that you can most times, turn your passion into your full time career if you put your mind to it. It won't become boring because if you really love what you do, then you'll do it anyway.

Take for example, Walt Disney. He could draw cartoons very well. There might have been people that discouraged him along the way but he kept pushing hard to make his passion come to life. Now I'm sure we all know Disney.

Am I saying that it's wise for person to drop his current job and go follow his passion? To be honest, that's up to the person, really. Sometimes it may not be wise to do it just like that. Let's take an instance. Your passion may be painting but you're not a master at it. You may drop your job and find it hard to cope because you'll still need to begin to learn how to paint like a pro. It's advised that instead of doing that, you keep your job and create quality time to develop your passion, even if it's only on the weekends. It'll be so worth it and from there, you can take it on as a profession. It's never too late.

Most students in college don't have passion for what they are studying. This causes a lot of depression. Even in work places, people get so frustrated with their lives even though they are making a living. They become so tired and angry because there is no fulfilment in the middle of everything. A person needs passion too in his career. If there is no love for what you are doing, then it's not worth it.

There are multiple reasons why people don't follow their passions as their professions and instead go do things that they have no interest for with their lives. These are also the reasons why some people totally abandon their passions:

1. Society:

This could actually be the biggest reason why people drop their passions aside. By society I mean the majority of everyone else apart from you, what they think and their values and views. Society also includes our loved ones; family, friends and relatives. In the society we live in today, people don't usually think about passions. They will discourage you from doing what you love as long as it's not prestigious and it doesn't bring money.

2. Financial Commitment:

Yeah, this is the next one. People totally drop their passions because they are committed (or maybe too committed) to paying the bills and worrying less about money. The thing is that everybody is busy looking for ways to make money. Still, at least create some spare time in the midst of all that busyness and do what you love. It will really alleviate a lot of stress.

3. Fear of Failure:

Sometimes this might just be the major thing that hinders a lot of people; they're afraid to fail. It's a normal thing to be afraid. In fact, it's a good thing. It shows that you are actually normal. Fear of the future is inevitable. This has really discouraged thousands of people and left them in their current nine-to-five's, depressed. Remember that tomorrow is not tangible. Tomorrow is neither concrete nor real until it comes. That's also the same way that future failure is not real until it comes. You might not fail. Even if you do, so what? In fact, you will more likely fail than not. That's how we learn. The real failure is when you've given up.

I honestly believe that nobody should underrate passion. Your passion could become a profession if you work towards it and set specific goals for yourself. Taking some time out of our busy schedule is a great way to start getting back into doing what you love. Don't neglect it. Sometimes we consume ourselves with professions that we don't really like. It's not like we have a choice, right? Actually, we do have a choice. Your happiness is a top-shelf issue.
