Hello everyone, yes, I've returned once again from oblivion, even though this is the last post where I give this introduction, I've decided to publish at my own pace, I just hope it's consistent enough so that you don't forget me 馃槶, but enough about me, you're here to see the process of my new drawing.
For a long time I've wanted to make my own version of this dragon, as you'll guess, I love dragons and since I drew Shin-Lo, I set myself the mission of making my own version of each card in this Splinter, even though at this rate I'll have two more expansions of drawings pending 馃ぃ.

Hola gente, s铆, he vuelto una vez m谩s del olvido, aunque este es el 煤ltimo post donde doy esta introducci贸n, he decidido publicar a mi ritmo, solo espero que sea lo suficientemente constante para que no me olviden 馃槶, pero suficiente de m铆, est谩n ac谩 para ver el proceso de mi nuevo dibujo.
Desde hace tiempo he querido hacer mi versi贸n de este drag贸n, como adivinar谩n, me encantan los dragones y desde que dibuj茅 a Shin-Lo, me propuse como misi贸n hacer mi versi贸n de cada una de las cartas de este Splinter, aunque a este ritmo tendr茅 otras dos expansiones de dibujos pendientes 馃ぃ.

Although in recent expansions the cards of splinterlands enjoy an exquisite description worthy of their own animated adaptation, the older cards only count, at most, with five lines of description, so instead of looking in their lore, I focused on the concept "Electric Dragon".
I decided to explore several options before starting, I made six proposals from the references I collected, as you can see from the cover of this post I chose number 6, but between us, proposals 2 and 5 are so great that maybe I'll make two new versions of this same dragon in the near future 馃槈.

Aunque en recientes expansiones las cartas de splinterlands gozan de una exquisita descripci贸n digna de su propia adaptaci贸n animada, las cartas m谩s viejas solo cuentan, a lo mucho, con unas cinco l铆neas de descripci贸n, as铆 que en vez de buscar en su lore, me enfoqu茅 en el concepto "Drag贸n el茅ctrico".
Decid铆 explorar varias opciones antes de empezar, hice seis propuestas a partir de las referencias que recopil茅, como podr谩n ver desde la portada de este post eleg铆 el n煤mero 6, pero aqu铆 entre nos, las propuestas 2 y 5 me encantan tanto que tal vez haga dos nuevas versiones de este mismo drag贸n en un futuro cercano 馃槈.
Once I chose the proposal, I started detailing the drawing, I decided that I wanted to see the whole body of the dragon, so I reduced its size and then began to play with the silhouette until I found a shape that I liked, adding internal details such as the belly, horns and claws.

Una vez elegida la propuesta, empec茅 a detallar el dibujo, decid铆 que quer铆a ver el cuerpo completo del drag贸n, as铆 que reduje su tama帽o y luego empec茅 a jugar con la silueta hasta encontrar una forma que me agradara, agregando detalles internos como la panza, cuernos y garras.
Before continuing, I resized the image, at this point I decided that this dragon would be the next wallpaper for my cell phone, then, I continued detailing the silhouette and fine tuning the details, particularly the hind legs were a tough challenge, I went through several versions before I found one that fit with the rest of the image, then I did the general shading.

Antes de continuar, cambi茅 el tama帽o de la imagen, en este punto decid铆 que esta drag贸n ser铆a el pr贸ximo fondo de pantalla para mi celular, luego, segu铆 detallando la silueta y afinando los detalles, particularmente las patas traseras fueron un duro reto, pas茅 por varias versiones antes de encontrar uno que encajara con el resto de la imagen, luego hice el sombreado general.
If you've been reading me for a while, you'll know that I usually don't do the shading at this point of the drawing, and there's a reason, for this drawing I decided to use a different method to color it, the Gradient Map, I don't have much space to explain how to use it and how it works, but if you want to know, let me know in the comments and I could bring out a post talking more about this tool 馃槈.
But I can give you a sneak peak if you have a good handle on the values, this method it speeds up and simplifies the coloring process.

Si llevas tiempo ley茅ndome, sabr谩s que normalmente no hago el sombreado a esta altura del dibujo, y hay una raz贸n, para este dibujo decid铆 usar un m茅todo diferente para colorearlo, el Mapa de Degradado, no tengo mucho espacio para explicar como usarlo y como funciona, pero si quieren saber, ind铆quenme en los cometarios y podr铆a sacar un post hablando m谩s de esta herramienta 馃槈.
Pero, de una vez les adelanto que si tienes buen manejo de los valores, agiliza y simplifica mucho el proceso de coloreado.
Then, I started to experiment with the color of the background, originally I wanted something dark like a stormy night sky, but it seemed to me that there was already too much darkness, so while I was making the final version of the clouds I changed the colors to something like a very stormy afternoon.
On the other hand, I detailed the shadows more, using the gradient map helped so much, since I didn't have to worry about getting the exact color, with a very soft brush and an almost black gray color, I was varying the strokes until I achieved the level of detail I wanted.

Luego, me puse a experimentar con el color del fondo, originalmente quer铆a algo oscuro como el cielo de una noche de tormenta, pero me pareci贸 que ya hab铆a demasiada oscuridad, as铆 que mientras hac铆a la versi贸n definitiva de las nubes cambi茅 los colores a algo parecido a una tarde muy tormentosa.
Por otra parte, detall茅 m谩s las sombras, usar el mapa de degradado ayud贸, ya que no tuve que preocuparme por conseguir el color exacto, con un pincel muy suave y un color gris casi negro, fui variando los trazos hasta lograr el nivel de detalle que deseaba.
A year ago I would have thought that my drawing was practically finished, that I would only have to add the lights and retouch the shadows and it would be ready, luckily I'm not the same person as a year ago.
This dragon is going to be my Opus Magnus and for that I need more details, small lightning bolts that run through its horns, a belly covered in hard plates so that no sword can pierce it, in the same way plates that protect its back legs, but not the front ones because it needs mobility and it can protect them with electricity.

Hace un a帽o habr铆a pensado que mi dibujo estaba pr谩cticamente terminado, que solo faltar铆a agregarle las luces y retocarle las sombras y ya estar铆a listo, menos mal que no soy la misma persona que hace un a帽o.
Este drag贸n va a ser mi Opus Magnus y para eso necesitaba m谩s detalles, peque帽os rel谩mpagos que recorren sus cuernos, una panza cubierta de placas duras para que ninguna espada pueda atravesarlo, del mismo modo placas que protejan sus patas traseras, pero no las delanteras porque necesita la movilidad y las puede proteger con zarpazos el茅ctricos.
The scales were... a delicate matter. Even though I love drawing dragons, drawing scales is still a challenge for me. There are different ways to do it, and it depends on the drawing style. My first attempts were disappointing. The first one I discarded because the scales looked like boils instead of skin. The second one I could have done, but it would probably have taken me until next year to finish the drawing.
In the end, after spending three weeks on Pinterest, Instagram, Tumblr and Twitter (which rest in peace 馃槥), looking at how different artists dealt with scales, I decided to use a pointillism approach, varying the colors between purple and dark blue for the shadows and aquamarine and light purple for the parts where the light hit.

Las escamas fueron... un asunto delicado, a pesar de que amo hacer dragones, hacer escamas es un reto que a煤n tengo que superar, hay diferentes formas de hacerlas y eso est谩 ligado al estilo de dibujo. Mis primeros intentos fueron decepcionantes, la primera lo descart茅 porque las escamas parec铆an for煤nculos en vez de piel y la segunda pude haberla hecho, pero probablemente habr铆a terminado el dibujo para el pr贸ximo a帽o.
Al final y luego de perderme tres semanas en Pinterest, Instagram, Tumblr y Twitter (que en paz descanse 馃槥), viendo como diferentes artistas lidiaban con las escamas, decid铆 un enfoque puntillista, variando los colores entre morado y azul oscuro para las sombras y aguamarina y morado claro para las partes donde pegaba la luz.

At this point I was already exhausted, I had been working on this drawing for more than two months, and I didn't want to have anything else to do with it, so I started using the first "final" version as a cell phone background, ironically, overexposure and feedback from other artists made the missing details painfully obvious, fortunately I came to my senses and five "final" versions later the final result was ready.

A estas alturas ya estaba agotada, llevaba m谩s de dos meses trabajando este dibujo, y no quer铆a tener nada m谩s que ver con 茅l, as铆 que empec茅 a usar la primera versi贸n "definitiva" como fondo de celular, ir贸nicamente, el exceso de exposici贸n junto al feedback de otros artistas hizo que los detalles faltantes se hicieran dolorosamente obvios, por fortuna recapacit茅 y cinco versiones "definitivas" despu茅s estaba listo el resultado final.
This dragon had its ups and downs, on the one hand, it was stimulating to apply things that I've been learning from different courses to improve my drawings, on the other hand, the scales 馃槚, my current personal trauma, I wish I wouldn't get blocked on this part again with a future dragon, but I think this is a problem that will stay with me for a while, even so, I'm satisfied with the result, especially now that I see it when I switch from app to app, protecting my cell phone screen.

Este drag贸n estuvo lleno de altibajos, por un lado, fue estimulante aplicar cosas que he estado aprendiendo de diferentes cursos para mejorar mis dibujos, por otro lado, las escamas 馃槚, mi trauma personal actual, desear铆a no volver a bloquearme en esta parte con un futuro drag贸n, pero creo que este es un problema que me acompa帽ar谩 por un rato, aun as铆, estoy satisfecha con el resultado, en especial ahora que lo veo cuando paso de aplicaci贸n a aplicaci贸n, protegiendo la pantalla de mi celular.
