I moaned at my local Mcdonald's this morning. TBH, I didn't really want McD's for breakfast as I'd had Burger King yesterday, but I needed to get back home quickly, and speed (Supposedly) is why fast food was invented. I seem to have endless trouble when it comes to ordering things. I refuse to accept it's my South East London accent which, after nearly forty years in the Midlands, I still haven't lost. I refuse to accept any portion of the blame; I think it's down to some of these individuals not listening and or concentrating. I mean, how difficult is: "Can I have a Lucky Dip Euro Millions for tonight and a Lucky Dip Lotto and Thunderball for Saturday." every time I ask for that in ASDA, I get the woman behind the counter's face start to crease as you can tell she's desperately trying to process the request: "Umm? You want......" Aaaarrrgghh, and don't get me started on the local chip shop: "Is that a special?"

I knew things were going to go wrong right at the moment I placed my order.

Me: "Can I have a double sausage and egg McMuffin meal with an orange juice and an extra hash brown, please?"

Speaker: "You want two sausage and egg meals........"

Me: "NO! I want........"

Having finally made them understand their own menu, I drove forward to the first window, paid, and moved forward to the second window.

Assistant: "Here is your coffee and I'll.."

Me: "I didn't order a coffee!"

Assistant: " Oh? Sorry, I'm getting ahead of myself."

She disappeared and returned with my orange juice.

Assistant: "If you could just park up......"

Me: "No, I'm sorry, but I'm not parking up; I'll wait here."

Assistant: "But there are others behind you who want to be served."

Me: "Exactly! So why should I wait for mine, and someone behind gets theirs? But more importantly, if I hold the queue up, you cannot take any more orders and then you will catch up with the food."

She promptly called the manager

Manager: "Can you park up, please?"

Me: "NO!"

Manager: "But it will only be a few minutes; we're waiting for hash browns to cook."

Me: "NO! This happens every time. Why have you not got enough pre-cooked?"

Manager: "We are cooking more now. If you don't move, it will put our times behind."

Me: "I'm not really bothered about your time targets, and to be honest, I'm more worried about my time than yours."

Manager: "If you park up, I will bring you your food personally."

Me: "Why? Is that some sort of special service, then?"

Manager: "If you're not happy, you can ring the head office."

Me: "What? You are in charge. You are the manager! Why would I ring the head office? This is your responsibility."

Manager: "Please park up; it won't be long, I promise."

The problem is, these fast-food outlets have now trained the general public that it's OK for you to wait. They're actually no longer "Fast-Food" I remember when McD's first opened in the UK. I can't remember the exact time, but it used to be if you waited X amount of time for your food, you got it for free. It's not right to ask you to park up; if I wanted to park, then I would park and go into the building. We go through the drive-through because we don't want to goddam park!
