Hello, friends especially foodies!
Today i would like to share our Sunday lunch experience, two weeks ago. This time we had the early lunch in an old time legendary restaurant. This restaurant was popular in old times, and usually we visited this restaurant with my great grandmother. So recently we wanted to compare the taste of the food there, would it be as delicious as in the old time? Let me tell you..
THE OUTLOOK OF THE RESTAURANT
Here how the restaurant looked like from the outside
When you entered you would surprised cause it had a mess up inside, but didn’t have to worry cause it had another clean and neat dining area and the area outside mess up area (clean but really mess up) was just for the online or takeaway buyers.
THE DINING AREA
This restaurant had a quite large dining area. Cozy with some sofas there too. It had air conditioners and also dominated with the green and white color.
THE MENU
They only had a page of menu there
We could find their heritage recipes such as kuo tie (fried dumplings), sui kiaw, wu xiang ru, ta lu mian and also man tou (steamed buns). Their specialities had thumbs up on left side like for soup they had suan la thang (hot sour soup), fried rice noodle, fried noodle, deep fried shrimps, kangkung (water spinach) hotplate and others. We could see that they didn’t have many menus here. We chose some then waiting..
THE FOOD & THE LOOK
Our food came one by one, the first one that came was their hotplate while the last one was their soup (supposed to be soup first, right?).
Here how our lunch looked like
This time I invited my dad’s oldest brother to join us after the Sunday service.
THE TASTE & FLAVOUR
The first came was their beef hotplate so let me tell you about it first
BEEF HOTPLATE
The portion was large (sadly it only had much water spinach while the beef were only a few). It served hot with much smoke. It had good quality of young water spinach and sliced beef. It had sweet savory flavour and so delicious. Both mom and I really loved it!
KULUYUK (SWEET SOUR PORK)
Weirdly it served mixed with the sauce. First they deep fried the pork which had flour skin, then put it on the sweet sour sauce. Like the name it had sweet sour with a bit savory flavour. It was only fine, and a big mistake to put the pork in the sauce cause its’ flour skin would be too chewy and soft to eat, plus it wouldn’t crispy anymore!
SUAN LA THANG (HOT SOUR SOUP)
This menu used to be old time legendary here, it had the mixture of pork, chicken and shrimp plus tofu inside with the sour savory flavour. Unfortunately nowadays it became only sour with no savory flavour so we had to put the savory soy sauce there plus it was a bit fishy, not a recommended menu anymore! Luckily the portion of this menu was small.
THE UNIQUE THING
There they used single used cutlery and eating utencils, except their hotplate!
THE PRICE
It was 350,900 IDR or around 24.5 USD for their 3 dishes, 3 portions of rice and 2 hot tea. How do you think about this price? I think it was a bit overpriced.
Thanks for reading my article, hope you enjoy it and stay tune for more CRAFT things from me!
