Hello, friends especially needleworkers needleworkmonday@needleworkmonday !

Christmas is nearby so couple weeks ago I had an idea to make a gingerbreadman in cross stitch, I had only little time everyday and weekends, so it was my hard effort to make gingerbreadman in cross stitch then I made it as an ornament, one of the hardest project cause I hadn’t practiced in doing craft recently. But when it is finished, it all worth the price, and my uncle seemed so happy to receive it today, it really paid off my hardwork.

Now let me just explain to you how I made it..

Project Time:

I spent around 24 hours struggling with the cross stitch which took many times

Difficulty:

A bit difficult for me, I also struggle with the sewing around thing haha.

Skills Needed:

  • cross stitch
  • back stitch
  • running stitch
  • blanket stitch

Materials & things needed:

  • aida/cross stitch fabric, I used the firm one so I didn’t need any hoop for this project
  • embroidery floss in many colors such as brown, soft brown, soft green, black, white, and red
  • Pencil
  • Paper scissors
  • Red felt fabric
  • Straight pins
  • Sewing needle
  • Unused thin paper
  • Red ribbon, around 18 cm long

How to make it:

1ST

I made the cross stitch first. Started with two strands of brown floss then made the gingerbread man from the border line. Then green stripes and cross like below.

2ND

Next I made two black eyes, white parts and also two red cheeks.

3RD

Then I made the smiling lips, bow and two buttons.

4TH

I did the fill in the blanks with soft brown color.

5TH

Fulfill it all then I put my Chinese name below it.

6TH

I want to make the outer red felt part. So I drew it on the paper, cut it off. Then put it on the red felt with the straight pins. After that I cut the felt fabric.

7TH

I also straight pin it to the ginger bread man. Then I did the running stitch around it with double strands of red floss. Cut off the excess cross stitch fabric. Then I straight pin it to the red felt, then cut for the back part.

8TH

Next I sew the red ribbon to it behind the first top red felt part, right on the cross stitch fabric. Then I made the blanket stitch around, put the dacron/fiber filling inside, closed it with the blanket stitch.
