Hello, friends especially needleworkers @needleworkmonday community!
Weekend always my favorite time to do, crafting, but there was an extra effort this week, it was because I needed to have training on Friday until Saturday so I only got a bit time left. But it didn’t hold me to make something cute to share to all of you here. This time I made a cute embroidered turtle which inspired from the plant and animal exhibition I saw yesterday, there were some stalls sold turtle yesterday. So I then inspired and made this turtle from felt like I always love to do, but I made a next level by making the embroidery on it, it combined other thing I love, hand embroidery. And now let me share to you all about how I made it, step by step and detail here, let’s go!
Around 8 hours
Quite difficult but I love it, really!
I drew the turtle on a piece of paper with the pencil, I folded it to make sure it was symmetric, then cut it off. After that, I cut down its’ parts.
Trimming it then I copied it to the green felt. Then cut the little part of its’ shell. I then copy it to the light green felt.
Then I continued it, for the center one, I could use two ways to copy. Then I used the paper as the ruler like below. Cut cut cut.
One by one of the parts finished, then I kept continue.
After I finally got all the parts. Then I used the medium green for the legs. Copy then cut like I did to the shell.
Cut and cut until I got all the turtle body parts like below. Look I got back part and front part. I made double for them, so each had 2 parts, front and back, except the detail of the shell.
I then joined the parts of shell to the green shell with whipped stitch one by one. For this part I used the 2 strands of soft green floss. Then it is finished all, I made it neatly, fiuh..
Still I needed tp make the embroidery there. First I made the french knot in the middle then 6 lazy daisy stitches around it. For the top, I made 3 lazy daisies like below.
I kept continuing until I made many lazy daisy and french knots on it like below. For the french knot eyes I used 4 strands of black floss.
Next I tried to join the head, legs and tail to the front part with the whipped stitch and also I did the same for the back parts. Then I joined the back and front with blanket stitch for some parts, around the shell between head, legs and tail. After that I put the dacron inside.
I also did the blanket stitch around for the tail, legs and put some dacron inside the head before I closed it.
VOILA, now this cute embroidered turtle is finished.
Isn’t it cute?
Mom even said that it would really great for key chain, brooch or like my idea, fridge magnet!
How do you think of it?
