What do you do when life gives you apples?
Why, you make apple crumble, of course.

This morning, as I wandered aimlessly with my four intrepid hounds, I accidentally stumbled across a carpet of windfall apples from two overhanging trees.

So, channelling theworldaroundme@theworldaroundme, I filled my bag with my free, gratis and for-nothing comestibles.

Come to think of it, it may not have been entirely accidental...I’ve been practising my manifestation skills lately, and I’d already used up everything from my own trees.

Now you may wonder why I go dog walking with a plastic bag…or you may not... and no, it’s not for collecting doggy poo. It’s for picking up the endless rubbish that numbskulls, filthy knackers, and assorted ne’er-do-wells launch from their car windows.

We live in the middle of nowhere in particular, so it’s not as if we have street sweepers. If I don’t pick it up, who will?

Anyway. Back to the crumble.

Here’s the crumble.

Alas, with my two siblings forming a disorderly queue, I forgot to photograph the finished article until after I’d served it drowned in homemade custard, but here’s my bowl

and here’s my sibling, whose enthusiasm is such that he's eating standing up.

Fanny Craddock, eat your heart out.
