Things Ms. Dee Likes, Edition 1, January 6, 2023

The Roundup

I was a professional journalist, and always wanted to publish a newsletter of my own ... in 2023, I have decided to pursue this dream through curating collections on Hive of the kinds of things I would gladly publish!

In this edition we have highlights across a variety of Hive communities and subjects. Like in a newspaper, there are sections so you can go to what interests you. News, art, photography, music, fiction, travel, commerce, finance, and a cross-section of subjects in "Oldies but Goodies" -- it's all here! Special highlight in the Commerce section -- there is a GRANT for entrepreneurs brought to us by a Hive Hustler, and the deadline is Jan. 30!

Most posts in this edition are in the payout period still, so if you like what I like, show the content creators some love! If you are using PeakD as your front end, you can also TIP anyone in the "Oldies But Goodies" section, too.

Art

[//]: #1 @justclickindiva/miss-dystopia-universe-the-first-annual-pageant-or-a-stable-diffusion-art-project

I resonated with this one greatly, since the Earth we live on is trying SO HARD to have candidates ready ... nevertheless, we on Hive keep messing up Earth's chances of getting in here, so just enjoy the art by @justclickindiva!

Music

[//]: #1 @jasperdick/zgktoayl
This song explains the prayers of my African American elders about South Africa in my early childhood, and their joy when at last, "Jo'anna" opened her eyes and saw what she needed to do ... but I'll let @jasperdick and Mr. Eddy Grant take it from there!

[//]: #2 @melor9/hive-open-mic-143-si-pudiera-original-song-by-melor9
My Spanish is not the best, but this original song about love traveling across distance still reached me! A beautiful song beautifully sung by @melor9!

Fiction

[//]: #1 @leninbracho50/sudden-death-or-muerte-subita-microrrelato-eng-esp

This story relates something that I know happens every year as people shoot their guns and blow off their fireworks ... I know a lot of veterans with PTSD that really struggle with this ... this is not a FUN story, but @leninbracho50 gives us something to think about, in English and Spanish, before Cinco De Mayo and the Fourth of July...

[//]: #2 @gribbles/zapfic-entry-for-january-2nd-days-end

Short but powerful writing from @gribbles on the lives of men who keep us all alive ... as you walk this walk in fiction, anywhere in the world, know that every bite of food you eat that is not of corporate origin comes from people like this!

[//]: #3 @hmviolinista/eng-esp-the-monster-and-the-aspirant-el-monstruo-y-el-aspiranteoror-hmviolinista
This story in English and Spanish is a fun read with a surprising ending ... but then, if @hmviolinista's characters are who they say they are, and one cannot escape the other ...

Come with @adetorrent to a winter hideaway from the cold ... the post is rich with the history and culture of the spot as well.

Commerce

[//]: #1 @shakavon/galaxy-grants-funding-opportunity-for-hive-183630

I love it when Hive entrepreneurs share resources with each other -- I didn't even know about Galaxy Grants until finding this post by @shakavon -- and I'm eligible! But, HEY -- deadline for application is Jan. 30, 2023, so if you want it, you better go get it! Also BE SURE to check out the Galaxy website -- lots of free goodies including business tips and free website hosting!

[//]: #2 @alexanderflx/eng-esp-elegant-hanging-tendrils-in-alambrismo-elegantes-zarcillos-colgantes-en-alambrismo-alexanderflx

In English and Spanish -- I loved the step-by-step craftsmanship of this jewelry maker, and YES, you can purchase these from @alexanderflx if you like what you see! He's not sponsoring this -- I just enjoyed the photography of his handiwork!

Finance

[//]: #1 @leofinance/leofinance-reimagined-in-2023

[//]: #2 @idiosyncratic1/de-fi-on-hive-bxt-and-beeswap
A good overview of just one of the often-overlooked but powerful options to engage in DeFi on Hive by @idiosyncratic1 -- step-by-step explanation of why Beeswap is an excellent access point!

[//]: #3 @forexbrokr/best-way-to-buy-hbd-without-kyc
For those of you who CANNOT STAND KYC requirements and want to get HBD in and out of the markets without dealing with all that, check out this post by @forexbrokr, and enjoy the step-by-step breakdown!

[//]: #4 @cryptoandcoffee/why-adoption-does-not-happen-overnight

This discussion of VeChain from @cryptoandcoffee was interesting to me because -- full disclosure -- I am a hodler, but also because it indicates what projects are doing during the bear market to be ready for adoption in the future. One thing I look for in cryptos and equities: projects that consistently build no matter the market conditions. Every project can't be Hive, of course, but the way we build here, rain or shine, is a good benchmark.

Oldies but Goodies (still worth a read, still TIPPABLE on PeakD)

[//]: #1 @xsasj/how-to-take-the-ferry-from-italy-to-albania-with-a-campervan
It's not something I would have ever thought to do, but I love reading how dedicated travelers work their favorite modes of transportation around all obstacles ... @xsasj gets a land vehicle through LOTS of water here ... it is a journey worth reading, and tippable in PeakD!

[//]: #2 @hivecreatorsday/givlwvyc
An interview with Hivers from Venezuela from @hivecreatorsday ... real stories of real users of the blockchain in a place where Hive REALLY FIXES a lot of things.

[//]: #3 @riverflows/if-you-havent-taught-your-kids-the-powers-of-this-one-herb-you-should-aka-how-i-healed-my-punctured-foot-fast

This one from @riverflows could actually save your life ... a powerful herb few know about can take wound care to another level!

[//]: #4 @valorbeats/kingdoms-lofi-beat-by-valor

For the lo-fi lovers among us ... Hive's very own @valorbeats gives us some New Year's chill with this mellow beat ... easing on into the New Year still relaxed from time with family and friends...
