5 October 2026, Freewriters Community Daily Writing Prompt Day 3247: no time for breakfast
“OK, in what civilized world is there no time for breakfast?”
“I don't even know what civilized means, but, yeah, where do they do that at and I'm not going!”
Nine-year-old Milton Trent and five-year-old Lil' Robert Ludlow were both waiting for dineer to get out of the oven when they overheard their neighbor Mrs. Maggie Lee telling a friend, “You cannot be that busy, Galia – no time for breakfast means you go into the day messing up your metabolism. I'm not saying you need pancakes, but let's plan some meals.”
Milton and Lil' Robert were horrified.
“How are people living like this?” Milton said.
“Yeah, and I need those pancakes,” Lil' Robert said. “Waffles are good, too. French toast – actually, give me all that, and run me some sausages too.”
“Don't forget the bacon, turkey bacon, ham, turkey ham, eggs, and tofu scramble,” Milton said.
“Amanda got us on that tofu scramble, and yeah, run me that too,” Lil' Robert said. “Grandma knows how to do all that stuff – and Papa does too!”
“Both my parents cook and all of my grandparents do too,” Milton said.
“Yeah, we got the recipe for tofu scramble from your mom!” Lil' Robert said.
“Oh, OK!” Milton said. “I mean, let's all make sure that breakfast is good at everybody's house!”
“Yeah, because – hey George, let's tell Milton about the plan!” Lil' Robert said and went to get his big brother and Milton's best friend nine-year-old George.
“Man, I meant to tell you about this but dinner happened the other day and Rob and I had to go,” George said. “The thing is, there's so much good food happening in my house, your house, and the Lees my cousins in the middle that we just need to synchronize our meals. So, we each start with early breakfast, and then we meet at the Lee house for breakfast 2, and then we trade houses for breakfast 3, by which time it will be lunch time … and so we eat lunch where we are, and then meet for lunch 2 in the Lee house, and then are back at our own homes for lunch 3, by which time it is dinner time, which we eat at our house, meet at the Lee house for dinner 2, trade houses for dinner 3, and eat dessert where we are, eat dessert at the Lee house for dessert 2, and be home in time for dessert 3.”
Milton considered this, and then just started clapping.
“This is brilliant!” he said. “I don't know why you two used to fight when you come up with great ideas like this!”
“We just didn't know how smart we both are until we put our heads together!” George said.
“Yeah, George is a great big brother because he knows what is going on,” Lil' Robert said. “I'm not saying that I don't love Grayson or Andrew, but when it comes to food, we need George.”
“Grayson did help me draw up the schedule, because he is not listening to anything without a plan,” George said. “He said a plan helps us go to adults and have them listen.”
“Yeah, because it looks better with all that red crayon to make it real,” Lil' Robert said. “I did that myself.”
“Let me go get it and see if you can think of anything we need to add, Milton,” George said.
“Yeah, let me go get the vibrant markers, because Mrs. Lee likes colors as much as Mom does,” Milton said.
