I remember having some eye issues while growing up and my mum will quickly squeeze out some breast milk, early morning urine or some sorts of leaves into my eyes. This is very common in the African Community. All those things they did then was just a perception on what they believe was right, but they were indirectly damaging the eyes.
The eye is the most sensitive part of the body. And must be handled properly.

There are various ways you can maintain and take good care of your eyes. They include the following:

  1. EAT FOR GOOD VISION: Protecting your eyes starts with the food on your plate. Nutrients such as omega-3 fatty acids, lutein, zinc, vitamins C and E might help ward off age-related vision problems such as macular degeneration and cataracts. Study shows that regular eating of these foods can help lead to good eye health:
β€’ Green, leafy vegetables such as spinach,
β€’ Salmon, tuna, and other oily fish.
β€’ Eggs, nuts, beans, and other non-meat protein sources.
β€’ Oranges and other citrus fruits or juices.
Eating a well-balanced diet also helps you maintain a healthy weight, which makes you less likely to get obesity-related diseases such as type 2 diabetes. Diabetes is the leading cause of blindness in adults.

  1. QUIT SMOKING: Usually after smoking, there are some medications you are supposed to take to cleanse the body.
But lots of people are not aware of that, so the keep on smoking and their lungs continues to get damaged. Smoking makes you more likely to get cataracts, optic nerve damage, and macular degeneration. If you've tried to quit smoking before and started smoking again, keep trying. The more times you try to quit smoking, the more likely you are to succeed.

  1. PUT ON SUNGLASSES ALWAYS: When buying sunglass, don't just buy a sunglass because it too beautiful, but it should be a good one. The right kind of sunglasses will help protect your eyes from the sun's ultraviolet (UV) rays. Too much UV exposure makes you more likely to get cataracts and macular degeneration. Choose sunglasses that block 99% to 100% of both UVA and UVB rays. Wraparound lenses help protect your eyes from the side. Polarized lenses reduce glare when driving. If you wear contact lenses, some offer UV protection. It's still a good idea to wear sunglasses for more protection.

β€’ Position your computer so that your eyes are level with the top of the monitor. This allows you to look slightly down at the screen.
β€’ Choose a comfortable, supportive chair. Position it so that your feet are flat on the floor.
β€’ If your eyes are dry, blink more.
β€’ Every 20 minutes, rest your eyes by looking 20 feet away for 20 seconds. At least every 2 hours, get up and take a 15-minute break.
