I have started over more than once. Not always by choice. Sometimes circumstances simply removed what was there and starting over was the only honest response to what remained.
The version of starting over that exists in motivational content is clean. Almost cinematic. A brave decision followed by a montage of effort followed by a new and better situation arrived at through determination and clarity of vision.
The actual version is messier and quieter and involves a lot more sitting with uncertainty than any montage suggests. Starting over means genuinely not knowing yet. Not performing not knowing while secretly confident underneath. Actually not knowing what is coming, what will work, whether the thing you are building toward is real or just hopeful thinking dressed as a plan.
That uncertainty is the actual experience of beginning again and it is harder than the inspiring version implies. Because you are starting with less than you had before, with some version of failure or loss in your recent history, and you are trying to build something in the absence of any guarantee that this time will be different.
What i have found is that starting over gets slightly less terrifying each time not because it gets easier but because you have proof from the previous versions that you survived the uncertainty before. That the not knowing resolved eventually into something liveable. That you have more capacity for the discomfort of beginnings than the fear suggests.
The proof is not dramatic. It does not arrive as confidence. It is just a quiet background knowing that you have been in the middle of the uncertain part before and come out the other side with something.
Starting over is hard. Do it anyway when the alternative is remaining somewhere that has stopped being honest.
The uncertain middle is survivable. You have already proven that.
