Rudyard Kipling's garden : My Actifit Report Card: June 10 2026
We returned to the coastal town of Rottingdean today especially to visit a garden once part of a property in which the famous writer Rudyard Kipling once lived.
I was surprised how large the garden area was. It was later improved by subsequent owners and is impressive, with ornamental walls and gates. Most of the paths have been laid with red clay bricks.
The view from the top of the garden is impressive with a hilltop windmill in view.
There is hardly a patch of bare soil such is the lush way in which the plants have been allowed to flourish naturally.
There is even a crochet lawn.
I have included a picture of a plaque showing a plan of the gardens. There were so many nooks and side paths, a marvelous garden!
