Hello everyone! π
Today I'm sharing a new Chibi-style illustration of Sasuke Uchiha, one of Naruto's most iconic characters. I wanted to give him a cuter appearance by playing with the exaggerated proportions typical of Chibi style while preserving the distinctive features that make Sasuke instantly recognizable.
I created this illustration in Manga Studio EX 4, from initial sketch through detailed coloring, then used Photoshop for final lighting adjustments and color refinements to achieve a more balanced and polished look.
ποΈ Step 1: Initial Sketch
I started with a blue sketch to establish the overall composition, Sasuke's seated pose on the bench, and the placement of surrounding elements. I carefully balanced his small, adorable appearance with his original design's distinctive features, creating a solid foundation for the details to come.
βοΈ Step 2: Base Line Art
Once satisfied with the sketch, I refined it with preliminary red line art, clarifying the character's structure, correcting proportions, and establishing clear outlines for the hair, face, clothing, and accessories. This stage served as a guide for final inking, making the next phases easier and ensuring consistency throughout.
βοΈ Step 3: Detailed Line Art
With the structure established, I moved to final black line art, refining outlines and adding details to the hair, eyes, facial expression, clothing folds, sandals, and bench. I paid special attention to the eyes and hairβessential for character recognition and preserving Sasuke's identity within this cartoonish style.
π¨ Step 4: Base Colors
I applied base colors to each element: dark tones for hair and clothing, purple shades for the lap object, and brown for the bench. A bluish background provides contrast and creates visual interest. At this stage, I focused on accurate color placement without shadows or complex lighting.
π Step 5: Shadows, Lighting, and Details
I added shadows to create volume and depth, highlights to the hair, subtle tones to the face, and clothing details to prevent flatness. I developed the ground and background with tonal variations, helping Sasuke blend naturally into the environment and creating a more complete, refined illustration.
β¨ Step 6: Final Retouching in Photoshop
After finishing in Manga Studio EX 4, I exported the illustration to Photoshop for final adjustments. I corrected overall lighting and refined the color palette to enhance harmony between character and background, strengthening the bluish atmosphere, balancing contrast, and achieving a polished final result.
π Final Result
Here's my Chibi version of Sasuke Uchiha! π₯β¨
I really enjoyed adapting this character to a more cartoonish style while maintaining his original essence. Every stepβfrom simple blue strokes to finished artwork complete with colors, shadows, and lightingβplayed an important role in bringing this piece to life.
Thank you so much for following along on this creative journey. I hope you enjoyed both the final result and the step-by-step process!
