Bad habits starting early..

-Too many times during my work with children have I seen them suffer from crippled self esteem due to influences at home. Too often have I seen children prefer lying to avoid the consequences of their actions, which ultimately makes the situation worse.

The source..

-From my experience, however limited, in working with children I can say this… Making sure your child is willing to turn to you when they mess up, could very well save their lives. Disciplinary actions can often be more detrimental than productive, especially in young children. I find that younger parents will facilitate the development of unhealthy characteristics in their children at a very young age.

A simple solution..

-Regardless of how “bad” a child may seem, they are still just a child. They need to know that someone is in their corner and that it is OK to make a mistake, because they will be making them their whole lives. Instead of reprimanding a child for messing, try first to demonstrate and explain a better way to go about a situation. The more a child idolizes an adult, the more they will imitate their behavior.

It starts with love, and ends with anger...

-The first thing we can do to help our children’s future is to be the adult we want them to become. Children are essentially supercomputers in tiny monkeys. They are listening, learning, imitating, and deciphering even when we think they are occupied and non attentive. Lying to a child is two lessons in one.. 1) How to lie and 2) Not to trust you.

-Raising children is without a doubt very difficult, but the most important advice I can give is to be a role model and make sure they want to turn to you for advice or when they mess up.

-Best of wishes to you all.
