Today is Chinese New Year Eve and it's a day where we have reunion meals where all our extended family from our paternal side gathers.

We gathered for lunch today at a new Chinese restaurant nearby where we live. My dad treated the whole family today with a delicious lunch and time spent together. It was an 8 course meal from an appetizer dish to desserts.

We started with a popular dish during Chinese New Year called 'Yee Sang' which is various shredded vegetables as well as fried stuff that's tossed together at the table by everyone. Typically its served with raw salmon as well but this one I had today came with fried soft shell crab.

It's mixed together with plum sauce which gives it a zesty tang as well as sweetness. You could say its the Chinese New Year salad.

Appetising and a wonderful dish to start of a meal.

Next we had a soup that was served in individual mini pots. It was an herbal chicken soup that had dates, chicken, mushrooms, dried scallop, and abalone. It was super flavorful and energising. It was probably my favorite course of the night.

Our 3rd dish was a steamed fish. It was a spotted grouper fish and was steamed and served with soy sauce and coriander. The fish was cooked nicely and the soy sauce coated and seasoned the fish beautifully. The flesh was nice as soft and full of flavor.

The 4th to 6th dishes were served together which were steamed tiger prawns with Chinese wine, broccoli stir fried with mushrooms and abalone, and snow peas with sea cucumber. Really fancy food that we often only eat during Chinese New Year. What a treat it was!

The 7th course was rice with Chinese sausages, wax duck, and salted pork meat which I think is my first time trying. Was really salty but perfect when eaten with the rice.

Our dessert and final course was some peanut mochi and a sesame coated glutinous ball stuffed with red bean paste. We also had a refreshing cold coconut jelly to finish off a great meal.
