They are giving us admission, they are not giving us jobs. A big statement here that I got from a conversation. And the question can be, is it school that is supposed to give you a job or the government? Their duty seems to be to train you to get a job (or professionally put, gain needed exposure) so as to help yourself with better life decisions. Let's not anchor here for today, we move.
Before getting there, let me start from the experience I have had today. Don't Rush to underrate, it can end the reverse. This is me talking about my e-exams today. I thought I got it ALL covered. Actually, it wasn't a failure but I was aiming much higher than the current result. That idea, shoot for the moon and at least you will end up within the stars. In a precise manner, I was shooting for the sun in this context and at least it was the moon I was planning to land but it ended up to be the stars.
Just imagine if I were to be shooting for the moon in this context. Departmental courses most times look like easy picks and while I was able to do better on a borrowed course yesterday, the confidence that I will get the best out of a departmental course turned out to be the reverse. Lesson learnt, step up the seriousness.
Still anchoring on school issues, it has been an experience in the first one year. I can remember when I used to pass by in that study center and just imagined what was actually going on there. The settings from the outside looked boring already.
At least I have had such an experience on how busy a school campus always was during my ND days. How are they making money with so few students around and just a few blocks? Isn't it too tight for students….., and the assumption continues
Fast forwarding and I have to complete my education in that same place that used to look very boring to me. What did I come to discover, I missed it entirely.
This is an Open and distance learning environment where students study online and show up once in a while on campus for examinations and practicals. Imagine the educational professionality. Adding to that, they gave branches all of the states of the country.
Still bothered about how they make money? Their tuition fee is quite much more reasonable than Federal and state universities and people are very satisfied to pay because of their professional model of education. Should I still add more? They recruit students every semester unlike the traditional tertiary institutions that do it yearly.
Can you see the gap here? These people have not just set up a schooling system but rather a business and I must comprehend their flywheels that keep spinning in the money. And the lesson still learnt boils back to my first experience, don't be quick to underrate.
It was something I was discussing with a friend today on campus and the chances they have to snatch many students from the traditional class block and face to face tertiary education system. I can say that the future of learning is tailored to distance and Open learning institutions.
In conclusion, let me add, analysis is showing a shift in age difference of those who used to attend Open and distance learning institutions. First attributed to the adults but it seems youths are NOW flooding this institutions. Everyone is looking for where to learn at convenience while also pursuing other important things in life. Didn't I say, education is meant to expose you and beyond joining the cue of job seekers?.
