陆 block extra firm tofu
陆 cup cornstarch
Vegetable oil (for frying)
1 tsp MSG or salt
1 cup blackberries
1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
1 tsp minced garlic
1 tsp minced ginger
2 tbsp soy sauce
2 tbsp maple syrup
1 tsp red pepper flakes
Juice of half a lime
Knife and cutting board
Medium-sized skillet or frying pan
Tongs or spatula
Small bowl
Measuring spoons
Chop the tofu into bite-sized chunks and pat them dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture.
Coat the tofu pieces evenly in cornstarch.
Heat a layer of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat.
Shallow fry the tofu until golden and crispy on all sides, turning as needed.
Toss the fried tofu in MSG or salt while still hot, then set aside on a plate.
If the blackberries are hand-picked, rinse them thoroughly.
In the same pan used to fry the tofu, add the blackberries, balsamic vinegar, minced garlic, minced ginger, and soy sauce.
Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the blackberries break down into a thick, mushy consistency.
