My First Ride on Anywheel’s New Red Bike with Automatic Gears!
If you’ve been following my cycling adventures, then you probably already know how much I enjoy cycling around the city. Even though I have my own bicycle, I still rent shared bicycles from time to time, and my favorite has always been the Anywheel bicycles—or what I usually call the “green bikes” because, well, they are literally green! LOL.
Recently, however, something new appeared among those familiar green bicycles. Anywheel has introduced a new model, and this time it comes with a flashy red-and-green design. But the color isn’t really what got me excited. The biggest improvement is something much more interesting: automatic gears!
Before sharing my first experience with the new bike, I want to celebrate a little milestone first.
According to my Anywheel profile, I have already travelled 1,035.03 KM using their bicycles. WOW! Even I was surprised when I saw that number. I didn’t realize all those random cycling trips, city explorations, and short rides had already added up to more than a thousand kilometers.
Along the way, the app says I’ve saved 103.50 kg of carbon, equivalent to around 4.8 trees planted. Since I consistently use the monthly Bike Pass, I’ve also apparently saved S$456. That’s quite a lot of savings IMHO!
And probably my favorite number of them all: 24,841 kcal burned!
Now, back to the new bike!
The previous Anywheel model only uses one gear. It works perfectly fine for most casual rides, but there are certain situations where I find it challenging. Initial pedaling usually requires a little extra effort, and climbing hills can sometimes feel like a workout that I didn’t exactly ask for hahaha.
That’s why I was really curious when I saw the words AUTO-GEARS printed on the new model.
The difference was noticeable from my very first pedal.
It immediately felt lighter and easier to get moving. Naturally, that made me want to pedal harder, and once I did, I could actually feel myself picking up speed. That little burst of acceleration gave me such a thrill!
What impressed me even more was that I didn’t have to manually think about changing gears. On my personal bicycle, I normally have to adjust the gears depending on whether I’m starting, cruising, or approaching a slope. With this Anywheel bike, I could simply pedal and enjoy the ride while the gearing seemed to take care of itself.
And I really like that idea.
For me, cycling is mostly about exploring places, enjoying the scenery, getting some exercise, and occasionally wandering somewhere without much of a plan. Having automatic gears removes one small thing I normally have to think about, allowing me to focus more on the fun part of cycling.
I honestly didn’t expect automatic gears to change my preference this much, but after this first ride, I’m already thinking, “Why can’t more bicycles be like this?” LOL.
Since this model was only recently released, the red bikes are still quite rare compared with the usual green ones. Hopefully Anywheel will gradually release more of them around Singapore because I definitely want to ride one again.
Now I’m already excited for the weekend. I want a longer cycling session so I can properly test the new bike, especially on hills and longer routes.
For now, this first ride definitely left a good impression.
