I never thought that I would be doing this tonight... cycling under a hazy sky LOL. But somehow, I still ended up on a bicycle!

Maybe I simply enjoy cycling too much that even the gloomy weather couldn't completely stop me. Haze is something that occasionally happens here in Singapore, and whenever it gets bad, the entire city seems to change its appearance. The normally clear skyline disappears behind a grey curtain, the buildings in the distance become less visible, and even the evening sky looks strangely dull.

Of course, I knew that this wasn't the best evening for a long cycling adventure, so I decided to keep things simple. Instead of bringing my own bicycle and accidentally convincing myself to cycle much farther than planned hahaha, I rented a bicycle and wandered around the Aljunied area for a while.

It was somewhere around 6:30 PM to 7:00 PM, which is normally one of my favorite times to be outside because of the blue hour. Usually, the sky slowly changes into that beautiful deep blue while the city lights begin switching on.

Tonight was completely different.

Because of the haze, it almost looked like the photos were taken during dawn instead! Everything had this soft, muted and slightly mysterious atmosphere. The buildings, MRT tracks, roads and trees all seemed to fade gently into the background.

Strangely enough, I actually liked how some of the photos turned out.

The haze gave them a kind of cinematic effect. Maybe gloomy is the better word, but there's also something dramatic about seeing familiar parts of the city looking completely different. Sometimes photography makes me appreciate unusual conditions because even something as simple as different weather can completely change the mood of a place.

While cycling around, I also noticed a beautiful Plumeria tree with deep red flowers.

Against the grey and hazy sky, the flowers really stood out. The rich red color surrounded by green leaves immediately caught my attention, so of course I had to stop and take a few photos. It's funny how during a city cycling adventure, sometimes my favorite photo isn't a giant building or a beautiful skyline. It can simply be one flower that I happened to notice along the way.

As evening arrived, the lights around Aljunied slowly became brighter. There were plenty of bicycles parked near the MRT station as well, including rows of rental bikes waiting for their next riders. Seeing them made me feel like cycling has really become part of everyday city life here.

After my short ride, it was finally time for dinner.

I ordered a huge serving of mixed vegetable rice with vegetables, egg and some braised meat. I was definitely hungry after cycling, but the portion was much bigger than I expected. I finished the dishes but left about half of the rice because I didn't want to overeat late at night.

Sometimes I still feel a little guilty whenever I don't finish everything on my plate, but at the same time, I think it's better to listen to my body instead of forcing myself to eat when I'm already full.

So that was my little hazy evening adventure around Aljunied. It wasn't the clearest or most colorful cycling evening, but somehow, the strange atmosphere made it memorable in its own way.

Thanks for checking out my blog post!

See you on my next cycling adventure! 🚲
