"Capturing the Timeless Beauty of St. Andrew’s Cathedral" // #Monomad Challenge
It’s been a while since my last contribution to the Black and White community, so last weekend, I decided to head into the city to search for an interesting subject for my photography. I went to the City Hall area, hoping there might be some events around the National Gallery. I thought I’d try some street photography or candid shots; however, there wasn’t much happening, and only a few people were around. It was likely due to the warm weather, as most people seemed to prefer escaping to nearby shopping malls. With so many malls in this area, it’s easy to see why people would stay indoors until sundown, when it’s much more pleasant to walk around outside.
Since there weren’t any good street photography opportunities at that time, I decided to try some architectural photography instead. There are many modern buildings in the area, but I remembered a beautiful church nearby called St. Andrew’s Cathedral. It’s bordered by four main roads: Stamford Road, North Bridge Road, Coleman Street, and St. Andrew’s Road. This cathedral is the largest in the country and serves as the cathedral church of the Anglican Diocese of Singapore.
Exploring the surroundings took about 10 to 15 minutes, as I walked and took photos along the way. The scale of the cathedral is impressive, and it’s very well-preserved. During my visit, some parts of the facade were undergoing renovation, but luckily, the front was unobstructed, allowing me to capture the best angles of the cathedral.
There was an ongoing event, which I believe was a wedding, so I wasn’t allowed to enter the cathedral. This means I’ll have to revisit this place in the future, as I haven’t yet seen the interior.
As much as I wanted to photograph the inside, I simply walked around the grounds to capture more photos of its exterior from different angles.
