My First Halloween Defense Victory... and a Top 2 Spot in Hive Town! ππ
Yesterday, I shared my first adventure in Hive Town, and I had a blast exploring its mini-games. I love how they combine adventure, post promotion, and cooperation with other players as we work together to build the Apiary.
I enjoyed Zombie Arena, although I felt dizzy afterward, LOL! I guess Iβm no longer used to that kind of game. Dark Ruins was more my style because it reminded me of the classic Contra games I enjoyed years ago.
Today, I was watering pumpkins and visiting the Creator House when I noticed a post from @rozioo announcing another game.
Wait... a NEW game?!? Of course I had to try it! LOL.
The post was titled Halloween Defense β a new game in Hive Town! ππ. I learned that it was a tower defense game, and that was enough to get me excited. Instead of reading the instructions, I jumped straight in, thinking I could learn as I played.
Well, I spent several minutes trying to figure out how to place my first tower, haha! Thankfully, the first wave doesn't begin until you build one. Otherwise, my town would have been overrun before I even started!
Building My Defense, One Wave at a Time
There are four types of towers: the Bee Tower, which attacks quickly; the Pumpkin Tower, which deals area damage; the Crystal Tower, which uses chain lightning; and the Honey Bucket Tower, which slows down ground enemies.
My first strategy was simple: start with speed. I placed a Bee Tower near the entrance and upgraded it instead of buying several towers. It cleared the first wave, so I felt confident about my approach.
As I completed more waves, I earned honey to spend on towers and upgrades. My next choice was the Pumpkin Tower. From what I observed, it seemed useful against flying monsters, although I could be wrong about that.
Then the ghosts appeared! They were harder to deal with, so I tried a Crystal Tower. Its lightning attacks seemed more effective, and that was my first lesson in adapting to different enemies.
And then came the mummies. Oh no, not again! LOL! Those monsters were already my nemesis in Dark Ruins, where they prevented me from winning. This time, however, I discovered that the Honey Bucket Tower could slow them down while my other towers attacked. Finally, I had a way to deal with them!
For most of the first fourteen waves, I focused on having one of each tower type and upgrading them as much as possible. I preferred stronger defenses over filling every available slot. Honey was limited, and buying and upgrading towers was expensive.
Still, one giant mummy managed to slip past my defenses and reach Hive Town. That was a wake-up call! I learned that I could sell towers after enemies had passed them and use the honey to build new defenses farther along the road.
The Final Wave... and the Honey Bear!
By wave fifteen, I was facing the big boss, the Honey Devourer, a huge honey-covered bear. My towers seemed to focus on smaller monsters first, allowing the bear to pass through my front and middle defenses.
I thought I was about to lose!
So I made one final move: I sold the towers that could no longer reach the boss and rebuilt my defenses near the end of the path. I was desperately hoping my remaining firepower would be enough.
And guess what? IT WORKED!!! The Honey Bear was defeated, and I cleared all fifteen waves on my very first attempt!
My final score was 81,585, and that victory helped push me to #2 on Hive Town's overall leaderboard. I still can't believe I managed that on only my second day playing in Hive Town, hahaha!
What makes this experience even better is seeing how Hive Town keeps expanding with new things to do. I came in just to water pumpkins and ended up strategizing against monsters. Thatβs the kind of fun that makes me want to keep coming back.
