Fall is a our favorite time to hike. Not as many people are on the trail so we can let our dogs off leash. The temperatures are cooler so we can hike longer and trees are just that much more beautiful. Here’s a pic pic our oldest dog enjoying the trail.

After our hike we headed into town for a burger and beer. I ended up lying a bit more to try one of my favorite Breweries gluten free sours. Shifting Baseline is a Sour Ale brewed with Bloody Butcher Corn, Oats, Black Currant, and Vanilla. It’s kind of a cool story because this beer represents a change for Speciations. After trying nearly every gluten free beer on the market, none of them really did it for their brew team. So they decided to brew something that was gluten free, but didn’t sacrifice any flavor like the other beers. They partnered with Sugar Creek Malt based in Indiana to source some rare heritage malted corn and oats, and the care and skill of their brewers shows as I’m thrilled with the results!

This beer is ruby red with aromas of sweet earthy fruit, malt and vanilla. It’s delicate, but in a good way.

The flavor is smooth and balanced. It has a nice bit of sweetness with some sour notes. You get some nice mellow vanilla and earthy oats that perfect for a refreshing beer. The mouthfeel is light and there’s a decent a lot of carbonation for their beers.

I honestly can’t believe this is a gluten free beer. It’s a delicious way to end a great day.
