If you can support your local breweries please do so. Times are tough and smaller breweries are struggling. I picked up this crowler and bought some merchandise to do my part. Barrel Aged Farthest Shore is a rare beer as it’s not Distributed. So the only way to try this one is stopping at the brewery and get a crowler or growler to go.

I’m a fan of Belgian style beers especially strong ales. These beers have interesting flavor profiles and beautiful appearances. The beer is no different. It has an opaque brown body, pretty thick tan head and copious amounts of lacing. I was pretty excited to also try out my new glass that I purchased. There’s nothing like matching your class we are to the brewery and beer.

The nose (aroma) is full of bubble gum, rich plum and smooth alcohol warmth. It’s a pretty fragrant beer and I think I can pick up a little bit of the malt and some more subtle barrel notes. I like drinking these types of beers out of tulips because it allows the aroma direct access to your nostrils when you sip. If you can I recommend matching your glassware to the beer style. This will give you the best drinking experience.

The flavor is complex with rich sugar notes, hints of chewy bubble gum and dark raisins. I get a bit of that barrel which comes off as an oak woody flavor. Finish finish has a nice alcoholic bite which cleanse the palate.

This is a surprisingly rewarding dark beer that’s both rich in aroma and flavor. It does this with not being overly sweet or bitter. It just a great beer to end the night on!

Cheers,
