Thunders and splashing. A pungent smell of cold freshness. There is something about the rain, there is something that makes me feel so good when it happens. It is pouring now and I love it. I can hear the drops of water smashing into my windows and it is like a symphony. I am listening to every note.
I can't remember the exact moment when I fell in love with this. But I can recall my childhood memories going at the countryside and running like crazy when rain caught me playing on the meadows. Warm rain. It didn't feel cold. It felt invigorating. Forced to go inside, I wanted to sit and stare at the window and watch the clouds. I was mesmerised.
The thing I love the most is the smell. The smell of wet concrete, wet grass. The smell of dust washed away. As a child I used to take a bottle of water, make holes in the cork and pretend I am using it as a rain sprinkler. Then I climbed up and down in the building where I used to live and watered the stairs while inhaling the smell. I created my own rain ecosytem. Children can be so creative.
Getting caught by a warm rain is amazing. It happened once when I was climbing a mountain. Out of the blue, pouring rain. I was soaking wet and I loved it. Although it feels scary and maybe uncomfortable, after you get dry, you feel good. The same feeling that you have after you play with snow. That warming tingly sensation you get once the moment has passed and you are safe inside.
I love rain because most people avoid it. And then there is quiet. There aren't crowds and crowds of people on the streets anymore. And you can hear more than the urban noise, you can hear the water of clouds hitting your skin. It is like a drop of the universe is touching you and you're so in the moment you can almost taste it.
Have a magnificent day and toodle loo!
