I thought I saw a ghost while scavenging for scrap
In the abandoned zoo, 'mid the rubble and the rot.
I saw its eyes, so pale and cold,
Its mouth agape in a soundless scream.
I stumbled back in terror and fled the place,
Though I know not what I saw that day.
Was it a ghost, or just a trick of the light?
I'll never know, for I never dare return.
