Our hyper-connected worlds and devices are helping to keep us sane right now, for better or worse. Passing the time would be a lot harder without Hive to read or Instagram to scroll. But with all of this extra screen time, I keep coming back to a quote I saw the other day that makes me think twice about what's driving me to pick up my mini-computer:
Every time I reach for my phone, something tells me what you seek is not in there.
Our phone has plenty of answers. It's arguably one of the smartest devices ever created, and seemingly has all of the information you could ever want, right at the tip of your fingers. But it's missing one important piece. Your knowledge about yourself. Only you can find that out. By digging, exploring, uncovering, and healing.
The process of finding out who you really are at your core is far from easy. It takes many years and is really never fully complete. But there's arguably no task more important than finding yourself on this journey of life. Our days are limited, and the fewer of them we have pretending to be someone else or unconsciously living someone else's dream for us, the better.
I would be lost without my phone. But I'd be far more lost without my knowledge of who I am. Let this question guide you. Strive for clarity, for mending, and for peace. The answers are already inside you.
"A Single Seed" is my attempt to get out one idea every day that I've learned or accumulated over the years, with the hope that it may stick in someone else's memory bank as well. The idea may be related to fitness, business, life, or philosophy, but I think you'll find that many can change domains if you wish them to. With each seed planted, a new life awaits.
