Twin Lakes is the last wide spot in the road to stop at before you go through Independence Pass and on down to Aspen, Colorado. When I was heading to Aspen the scenery around there caught my eye and I had to stop and set up camp and explore a bit. There was even an old country general store by the side of the road (and not much else) that was begging me to take its picture.
I've been on something of a break from the hive here lately, did I miss anything? It wasn't an intentional break, I just keep getting sidetracked and distracted and time sometimes gets away from me. Does any of y'all out there play Magic: The Gathering? I recently dug my cards out after more than a decade of gathering dust and started teaching my pandemic partner how to play. I'd forgotten how much fun it was to play and how much time it can make disappear (I'm blaming Magic for my recent absence from hive . A ton of stuff has changed since I last played so it's been interesting playing catch-up.
I walked outside earlier today to take out the trash only to discover that it was snowing (insert grumbling sounds here). They're forecasting up to three inches of the white stuff this evening, could one of y'all please send me some warm weather? Three inches ain't much to get excited about but it is still more than we've gotten in a few years at least.
Is it just me or does it seem like each year there is less and less snow? Winters in Kentucky still get a bit cold but we don't see the same snowfall we used to. These past few winters you could count on one hand the number of times it snowed, and usually it didn't add up to much. For comparison, one year when I was in high school we missed 33 days of school due to snow (mountain roads, snow, and school buses are no bueno) and we usually got at least one good snowstorm a year.
As pretty as Twin Lakes is I don't think I could ever live there. It's more than 9,000 feet above sea level and it gets cold! State Highway 82, the road that runs through town and Independence Pass and on down to Aspen is only open seasonally. During winter it is usually closed due to snow and Aspen is cut off from parts further east. The population of Twin Lakes is only 171 and I can understand why...
