After it became apparent that the protests were in no danger of winding down, protesters started occupying Jefferson Square Park.24/7, setting up camp and providing food and aid to all comers. This first photo is of the stage area they'd set up, taken on Saturday, June 27th. That day a 'militia' was supposed to turn up and 'take back the city' from us 'rioters' but it turned out they were mostly keyboard warriors and about three people showed up.
A few hours after I'd left the park for the day a man seized a gun from a protester and fired multiple shots into the crowd, killing a photographer, Tyler Gerth. The protesters security team wounded, disarmed, and detained the shooter before police forced everyone from the area. After they completed their investigation routine, LMPD had city workers come in, throw everything in the park into dumpsters and haul it off to the city dump.
This second photo is the results of their handiwork, taken on that auspicious fourth day of July. I could say a lot more about this but I feel like the photos tell the story better.
This last one didn't survive the clearing of the park for some reason...don't know what your definition of rioting is but most of the people starting stuff around here has been wearing the letters L M P D about their body.
