Sola

Alone

I was walking down the street and suddenly I saw her, there are many like her that apparently already fulfilled their function, once she was a work of colonial architecture, which was built with much illusion, plans and desires to be fulfilled.

Inhabited and happy, she began to live her own history, keeping every laughter, emotion, desire and tears expressed by each of its inhabitants, those who made up a family and which allowed her to enjoy her function for many years, watching run through its corridors every little child that made each generation bigger and with it its function.

Its life was passing and its walls were aging, the years were passing and with it its days of usefulness, little by little it was seeing each member leaving, some were leaving forever and others returned sometimes to share unforgettable moments.

Almost no one was running around its walls anymore and there was no one leaning out of its windows, the aroma of the kitchen was diminishing, the old radio no longer enlivened the atmosphere and few people enjoyed a coffee in the living room area, rowdy between shouts and laughter, its warmth was gradually fading deep inside.

She was well treated, cleaned, painted and decorated with bright lights and ornaments at Christmas and other family festivities, she for her part gave them shelter and listened to every word, felt every emotion and kept every thought and secret, expressed and felt by each of its inhabitants in her warm interior.

Suddenly she was empty, she was alone, her roofs had fallen, her doors and windows had closed, the heart that inhabited her had died and with it her purpose, no one seems to need her anymore, she is only a memory for those that one day she was a home.

Looking at her fills you with so many thoughts, I know that she is not just a house, nor is she just a piece of colonial architecture, she is the one who keeps a story, in each of its layers of mud, coconut shells and wood, its cold floors of that fine decorated ceramic that yearn for the footsteps as well as its walls the rose of a hand or a body that rested on her lap to enjoy a moment of happiness or sadness.

Silence and darkness became eternal inside her, she wishes to start over and relive every illusion, desire, laughter and sadness of those inhabitants, she who keeps their scent, their thoughts, feelings, memories and their most hidden secrets.
