Some people come into our lives to stay, while others come and go without any disagreement, and I think this is very natural. Some friends have turned into sisters, brothers, and true friends. Some stayed for a while and left quietly, while others simply grew distant, maybe because one person's location changed or they finished schooling and were no longer together.
Honestly, I think some friendships should just remain in the past. As much as we want people to stay in our lives, learning to let go of toxic relationships could save us some stress. Not everyone is meant to stay forever. There are frenemies who portray themselves as our friends but are secretly ready to stab us in the back or hurt us. Letting go of such people, I believe, is the best thing to do, regardless of what people might say.
Again, have you ever wondered why we try so hard to maintain friendships with people who wouldn't even notice whether we checked up on them or not? To me, forcing a relationship with people who don't really care about it is simply not worth it.
Trying to fit in by continuing to maintain such friendships can be exhausting. There is this pressure to always want to associate with the powerful or trending people in a place, forgetting that we don't have to be part of that circle.
Sometimes, we struggle to fit into circles where nobody cares whether we show up or not. We want to associate with popular people, trying so hard to fit in even when we feel invisible. We may even find ourselves competing or trying to keep up just to feel accepted.
If people could normalize not forcing relationships, I believe genuine and healthy friendships, without unnecessary and unhealthy competition, would become more common.
Discarding friendships that no longer serve any meaningful purpose is cool. Personally, I'd rather have a few genuine friends than struggle to belong somewhere I don't feel wanted.
