We are living in a digital world, and in this digital world, having the touch of modern technology is very natural. Social media is one of the things that has great influence and it comes to communication. Now connecting with people is not so difficult as it was in the past. Within a few seconds, we can connect with anyone; it does not matter if we knew them from earlier or not. That's the beauty of social media, and I must admit it's something very interesting.
Those people who are supposed to be introverts can connect with people without revealing their identity. But most of the social media requires a genuine identity but it depends on the user whether they want to share their genuine identity or not. So now, making friends online is a very common and natural thing at the present time. Some people think that bonding as well as relationships online is something okay and some people think that it's risky. Which one is right? I think both are right from their own perspective.
Let me share my personal experience. In this platform, I mean, in Hive platform, there are countless people with whom we are able to communicate. It's a web 3.0 social media and in this social media among those countless people we are able to make friends with few people at least. I know most of them because of their articles as well as their thoughts. I never met anyone of them in my real life, I mean offline in the offline world. But whenever I talk with them, I feel closeness. The surprising thing is that I didn't even see their faces, not even on social media also. Just take my example. I think I only revealed my picture once, and in that picture, I was not alone. So, all the people who communicate with me have never seen my face, and they haven't met me in real life.
I needed various kinds of suggestions related to both online and offline life and those friends offered me a helping hand, and I also try to do the same when someone asks for my help. So from this perspective, online relations are quite interesting, helpful and good. I just shared about this platform because I am active here and perhaps similar kind of experience can be found in other social media also.
But again, there are many traps in social media. There are many scammers who act very friendly with people and after gaining that trust they end up scamming the people. Again, there are people who use fake identity and because of the fake identity, they can take advantage of it. By hiding the true identity, there are many things they can steal from the user which can be used for blackmail, and I think at the present time there are tons of stories. From this perspective social media relationships can be risky because there is no way we can fully confirm that a person is genuine.
To be honest for me, I think social media is a good place to make friends and have friendly conversations, but we must need to be careful about selecting friends. Randomly picking friends is risky for us and if we choose to do so we must not reveal too much information about ourselves. Risk and opportunity co-exist and it's applicable for social media as well as social media relations.
If you think that I violated any rules of this platform or my word hurting you or I made any mistakes here , let me inform about it through comments or my other social network . I will try to correct it if I made any mistakes.
