Chose not to wait for US markets to open to offer bedtime before midnight. Got some cycling to do tomorrow. At least the start is not early. Do wake to rock bashing noises at 7am - yuk.
Ride today is to cross Lake Illawarra entrance and then skirt the beaches for a bit and then onto Kiama. Estuary to start
Then ride the bike path along Warrilla Beach - the surf club tower got a natty paint job
Warrilla Beach looking toward Shellharbour
Looking back the way we came - bike path crossed that curved bridge over the creek
Looking back from further along up the coast - might just make out the smokestacks from the steelworks at Port Kembla where I rode the day before
Looking south - will ride around that headland
Drop down past the new Shellharbour Hospital and looking at the Southern Tablelands
Small rainforest segment connecting Dunmore and Minnamurra - nice bike path and cool
Rail bridge crossing the Minnamurra River
Obligatory photo of a strelitzia flower - symbol for my first army regiment
View up the Minnamurra River from the mouth end
School paddling excursion on the river
A different perspective from the same spot
Route then climbs a bit to reach the Minnamurra Downs - interesting house with its views of the tablelands
View up the river from the downs
Looking north - find the smokestacks
Worked the way around the Bombo Headland - beach ahead is a hot surfing beach - Bombo Beach
Looking ahead - can just see the top of Kiama Lighthouse
Stopped for a quick coffee and a muesli bar in Kiama. The other riders were staying longer. I wanted to ride out the top of town and take a bigger loop ride back. View taken from the top toward the south and the new houses between the motorway and the tablelands
View down the valley to Jamberoo. The high area to the left is Barren Grounds NP - I posted photos from there not long ago
Turn right along Swamp Road and track back toward Minnamurra River
The bike path is relatively new - had not noticed this one going back to Jamberoo before
Natty art work on this old farm house - pink horses
Rail crossing at the old Shellharbour Station
Even got to see a train
Found the cycle paths again - not all signposted like that
Longest ride for some time since our short tour before the last Bike Friday weekend. Good to get miles in the legs.
Did notice a bump-bump on the back wheel braking down the big hills. Checked it later - cracked rim - no more riding this weekend
Did head out to shops to get a few things for snacks and dinner. Had drinks with the crew at sundown. Headed back to cabin to cook BBQ chicken
