My witchcraft began on the road. During the decade of my 20's I moved very often, sometimes spending only a couple of weeks in one place then moving on to the next. From the ages of 23 to 27 I lived out of my backpack and was constantly on the move. Those were the years when I really began working with spells and prayers. I didn't have a dedicated altar space so I carried all the tools of my craft in a small drawstring bag.
Now, nearly 10 years later, I still keep to my roots and keep a travel altar. When I started out all I had were stones, feathers, dried herbs, and other knick-knacks that I picked up for little or no money. Now I have collected all kinds of magickal tools from esoteric shops and items made by my own hands.

The contents of a practitioner's altar are as unique as the practitioner him/her/their self. I love to include spell ingredients like dried herbs in little mesh bags as well as some sort of divination tool. That is my personal preference and some witches may only need a deck or tarot card & some incense to do their spells.
When I first settled in this valley I would bring tarot cards with me everywhere and consulted my deck often. Now I am branching out into other forms of divination. Lately I have been playing with a set of charms from Goddess Provisions. If you are curious about this practice let me know and I will make a post & maybe even a short video all about that element of fortune telling.
Though not strictly necessary for crafting spells, I have also started to include a bit of inspiring literature. I have a deck of cards with information about different herbs commonly used in herbalism as well as magick, this deck has been in my travel altar for over a year now. And recently I added two zines that I received from a fellow zine maker ~ Midnight Zines. These two little booklets are a relaxing read if I am ever waiting around some where and need a dose of enchantment or even to kick start a rapid ritual.
This morning when I was taking these pictures for this post I was, of course, at home and surrounded by my cats who adore to take part in my outdoor rituals. Normally I do not have such cuties for company and simply find a secluded corner in a park or forest to do a subtle session of meditation. Or maybe I temporarily turn the side table draw into an altar in a hotel room and spread out my cloth, cards, and spell ingredients.
Whatever the situation, this collection of enchanted tools adapt.
