I have been a vegetarian ever since I was a kid. As soon as it dawned on me that my dinner consisted of dead animals, it was a no-brainer. My mum was supportive but concerned, as a mum in the 90s would be, that I would not get enough protein. So she did convince me to eat the occasional poultry or fish.
It wasn't long after that that Lisa Simpson went vegetarian, so I was certain I had done the right thing!

Anyway, going vegan. I've found it difficult to give up the cream in my coffee and the cheese on my nachos. But as it becomes more mainstream, and more awesome people are developing more awesome recipes and products, I am having a less difficult time. I am really enjoying the challenge of vegan cooking. Baking is the hardest part. Baking is tricky enough with old tried and tested recipes, but try baking vegan! No matter how close you get to matching the 'original' good you're trying to mimic, it's never quite the same (although sometimes it's better!). This is why to me it's made more sense for vegans to innovate and create their own new favourite recipes, rather than simply attempting to mimic their old favourites.
So now I ask you, vegans of Steemit, what are your favourite recipes? Tips & tricks? Let's hear 'em!
I am not much of a cook so I don't have any groudbreaking things to share. However, I would like to give a shoutout to The Very Good Butchers here in Victoria. If you're on the Island or even in western Canada (they ship!) you simply must try their plant-based products. So delicious and hearty. Among other things, we have had their Stuffed Beast for Thanksgiving and Christmas to rave reviews even from the omnivores. Check them out!
