I welcome you to my blog. I think every human being has that one meal that, if prepared, they cannot resist. There are days when one can reject food because they are upset or angry but not when their favourite meal is prepared. That one meal whose aroma alone makes them impatient, and they cannot wait for when the meal will be ready so they can dive in; trust me, you automatically become impatient once your favourite meal is involved, like you just have the adrenaline rush, pushing you to keep asking questions and checking for when it will be ready.
We all have that one meal; resisting it is a very big problem, trust me. As kids growing up, they were houses my mum would say, 'Don't eat there for any reason.' That is advice I pay attention to only when my favourite food is not involved. On the days I am there and they prepare my favourite food, I eat it and pray my mum does not in any way find out 😂. Once a food is your favourite, saying no to an offer becomes nearly impossible and takes a lot of self-control to do so. Even with this self-control, if you are not careful enough, you will fall for it and only realise it later.
My favourite food is rice and beans; it does not even matter how it is prepared, and fortunately for me, rice and beans can be prepared and eaten in different ways. You can have white rice and porridge beans; you can have white rice and white beans with stew. It can be jollof and so many other ways. My love for this combo is second to none, and anyhow it is prepared is totally fine by me, and I am ever ready to devour it, whether there is protein added to it or not, as long as it is tasteful enough. I don't mind; just bring it on.
If you ask me why I love this combo, I don't think I have an answer to that. I think we don't need to have a reason as to why something or someone is our favourite. Does that mean when that reason is no longer there, that thing that keeps it ceases to be our favourite? I really don't have a reason why rice and beans is my favourite food; I grew up loving it and still love it as an adult, and I don't think a time will come that I will stop loving rice and beans.
No doubt rice and beans have a certain level of nutritional value like a normal food should, but that is not why they are my favourite; rather, they are just my favourite because of the feeling they bring me and the kind of satisfaction I get whenever I get to eat them. No other food or meal brings the type of feeling rice and beans brings me.
