This particular piece has a very cool backstory to it. There was a sale going on in the Inflation Mitigation Lounge, and a sale came up for the old school Libertad angel design in 1/4oz of gold. When they popped up, I didn't hesitate to buy one.

Obverse
The Mexican mint is unique in that they consider this to be the obverse side. It depicts a Mexican golden eagle perched on top of a prickly pear cactus, eating a rattlesnake. This harkens back to an ancient Aztec legend, stating the Aztec god Huitzilopochtli gave this to them as a sign of where they should build the city of Tenochtitlan.

Reverse
The Libertad design on the reverse depicts the Angel of Independence in the foreground, with the Mexican volcanoes Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl in the background.

The Story Continued
The Inflation Mitigation Lounge has a unique feature where you can "build a box" to accumulate multiple purchases during a 30-day period, then ship them all out at once with flat-rate shipping. Because of this, I asked to close out my box at the end of the 30-day window. When the shipping employee reviewed my purchases, they mentioned that they had accidentally oversold the 1/4oz Libertads. My heart sank when I got that message.

They offered me alternatives or a refund, but I had my heart set on it. I was angry, but kept my cool. When I looked up prices online to possibly buy it elsewhere, all the online dealers wanted $100+ more than what I paid. I told the employee I'd think about it, since I really didn't want anything else they had in stock at the time.

A day later I get a message from the employee, notifying me that they had talked with the owner, Bullion Brother, and explained what had happened. When Bullion Brother found out, he pulled one he had in his own personal stack and swapped it for the gold they had in stock, in order to fill my order! I was both overjoyed and speechless!

We're all human and make mistakes. I was getting ready to resign myself to settling for a Swiss Helvetia. I have nothing against the design, but it's not a 1/4oz gold Libertad. This cemented in my mind that I'd found a company who not only thinks like a stacker, but bends over backwards to make things right, when he really didn't have to go that far.

Oddly enough, this coin was only minted in 1981 and then minting stopped. The coin wouldn't be minted again until 1991! (Source)

Each month, I give away a $1 Goldback or 4 HBD. The winner gets to choose.
