A big hello, dear Beer community! Summer has finally arrived in these tropical lands, and boy is it hot! The sun is relentless all day long, so consumption of our favorite beverage has increased in recent weeks. Precisely for that reason, and in the context of #BeerSaturday in its 415th week, I wanted to bring you a very special beer from my home country, Venezuela, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year: Zulia beer.

This beer is named after the westernmost state: Zulia State. Its history is quite interesting because it was founded in 1925, but here in the country's capital, we didn't get to know this beer until 2018, and this is because its commercial niche was focused precisely on Zulia State.

And among them was Zulia Beer, which no one outside of Zulia State had ever tasted or heard of. In an act of expansion, they took advantage of the space left by Polar beer to expand throughout the country. They achieved this with great success since 2018, and it is currently one of the beers with the best quality/price ratio. In short, if anything positive came out of the declaration of war made by the country's leading food company, it was that by doing so, they lost their entire monopoly, including the monopoly on the distribution of a single beer nationwide.

This long introduction I just gave you is because even now, Zulia beer is in a war with Polar to locate its beer brands in the city of Caracas. That's the reason I haven't been able to bring you a review of this beer before. It's because it's very difficult to find in the historic center of Caracas, where I live. Downtown Caracas remains a bastion of Polar beer, so I had to leave the city center to find it.

This is a Pilsen-style beer, which is classic considering we're in the Caribbean basin. That is to say, the state of Zulia is one of the hottest places in Venezuela and it is no surprise that the entrepreneurs of this brand have opted for this type of larger beer. It was enough to give it the first taste to realize its smooth flavor, moderate bitterness and that characteristic hop aroma that this type of beer of Czech origin has.

After savoring the first beer, I proceeded to open the second can while hanging out with my friends on Discord. We chatted about the game's new updates, what the game's medium-term future held, and whether the investment in alchemy and legendary cards was worth it. As I filled the mug with beer, I was delighted not only by its foamy texture, but also by its golden color, which was truly delightful to spend time with friends.

Later, I shared a photo of myself toasting with this beer with my Venezuelan friends and asked if they had been able to find it in their respective states, and they all agreed, confirming the effective strategy this brand had to expand throughout the country. In short, this beer is far superior to Polar. I give it a 9/10. It's fresh, has a fairly smooth flavor, and its foamy texture gives it a very special charm at the moment of taking the first sip. My recommendation is to drink it very cold. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get this beer in a bottle because that way I could put it in the freezer and achieve the effect we call here "Dressed as a Bride," which is to bring the beer to almost freezing point and cover the entire bottle with frosted ice. Well, friends, this was my review, or rather, my celebration of the centennial of Zulia beer, a brand that was hidden under rocks for decades and, through twists of fate, has become one of the main beers in Venezuela. Un gran saludo estimada comunidad de Beer! Finalmente ha llegado el verano a estas tierras del trópico y vaya que hace calor, el sol es implacable a lo largo de todo el día, asi que el consumo de nuestra bebida favorita se ha incrementado estas últimas semanas. Justamente por eso y en el contexto del #BeerSaturday en su semana 415 he querido traerles una cerveza muy especial de mi país Venezuela que este año esta cumpliendo 100 años: cerveza Zulia.

Esta cerveza lleva el nombre del estado más occidental: Estado Zulia, su historia es bastante interesante porque fue fundada en 1925 pero aquí en la Capital del país no llegamos a conocer esta cerveza sino hasta el año 2018 y esto se debe a que su nicho comercial estaba enfocado precisamente el Estado Zulia.

El asunto es que nuestro país entro en una fuerte turbulencia política, económica y social que llevo a la principal clase empresarial en Venezuela a usar su monopolio de los productos básicos (esencialmente alimentos) para acapararlos y generar escasez de muchos productos entre ellos la cerveza. Si bien la pasamos muy mal en esos años del 2014 al 2018 eso llevó como consecuencia que pequeñas empresas y comerciantes llenaran el vacío que dejaron estas élites económicas, como la cerveza Polar que era la principal cerveza del país comenzó a ver como nuevas marcas de Cervezas, comerciales y artesanales llenaban ese espacio.

Toda esta larga introducción que te acabo de exponer es porque incluso ahora la cerveza Zulia se encuentra en una guerra con la Polar por ubicar sus marcas de cerveza en la ciudad de Caracas. Esa es la razón por la que no he podido traete la reseña de esta cerveza antes y es que cuesta mucho conseguirla en el centro histórico de Caracas que es donde vivo, el centro de Caracas sigue siendo un bastión de la cerveza Polar asi que tuve que salir del centro de la ciudad para poder encontrarla.

Esta es una cerveza tipo Pilsen lo cual es clásico considerando que estamos en la cuenca del caribe. Es decir, el estado Zulia es uno de los lugares más calientes de Venezuela y no es de extrañar que los emprendedores de esta marca hayan optado por este tipo de cerveza larger, bastó con darle la primera probada para darme cuenta de su suave sabor, amargor moderado y ese característico aroma a lúpulo que tiene esta clase de cerveza de origen checo.

Después de saborear la primera cerveza, procedí abrir la segunda lata mientras compartía con mis amigos del discord. Nos quedamos hablando de las nuevas actualizaciones del juego y cual era el futuro a mediano plazo del juego y si valía la pena la inversión en la cartas de alquimia y legendarias. Al llenar el tarro con cerveza me encantó no solo lo espumosa que era, sino ese color aurífero que tenía una verdadera delicia para pasar el rato con amigos.

Posteriormente le compartí a mis amigos venezolanos una foto brindando con esta cerveza y les pregunté si la han podido encontrar en sus respectivos estados y todos me dijeron que si, lo que confirma la eficaz estrategia que tuvo esta marca para expandirse por todo el país. Em resumen esta cerveza es muy superior a la Polar yo le doy un 9/10 es fresca, un sabor bastante suave y el ser tan espumosa le da un encanto muy particular al momento de darle el primer sorbo. Mi recomendación es tomarla bien fría, lamentablemente no he podido conseguir la presentación de esta cerveza en botella porque así las podría meter en el freezer y lograr el efecto que aquí llamamos "Vestida de Novia" que es llevar la cerveza a casi el punto de congelación y toda la botella queda cubierta de hielo glaseado, cuando logre conseguirla les traeré un post compartiendo con ustedes como lograr este efecto.

Bien amigos, esta fue mi reseña o mejor dicho mi celebración del centenario de la cerveza Zulia, una marca que estuvo escondida por décadas debajo de las piedras y por vueltas del destino se ha convertido en una de las cervezas principales en Venezuela.
