I tried out a new app this week, 'Run Keeper' and I what I really like about the app is the audio update. At certain intervals, you get an update on your speed, distance and time.
I created this custom activity which was a 5KM run with 5 min warm up and 5 min cool down. As I hit start there was a bit of an audio introduction to start to warm up. After my warm-up was complete came another audio update to start the run.
Regular updates during the run kept me informed and I assumed that once I reached my goal of 5KM there would be some kind of notification. I remember getting a notification at 4.39KM. I have a good idea of what 600m looks like, so I made a visual mark up ahead of where I expected the end to be.
Reaching the landmark there was unexpectedly no update so I kept going thinking maybe I had miss-judged the distance. I kept going and still no update. Now I was sure I had reached my distance so I decided to stop and check my phone which was in my bag......
This week's achievements:
4.62KM @ 29m17s (Road)
5.42KM @ 34m36s (Road)
500M ( 100M intervals)
Most of my running has been on a flat terrain. I will start incorporating hill sprints into my routine to add that additional resistance. I hear from many people that hills are what make or break a runner in a race so I want work toward that level of preparation.
Till next week.......
