Although I am no longer doing my #eatingthroughcovid series, that doesn't mean I won't be posting about food anymore. If you have ever seen my waistline, you know that I am a big fan of food.

In fact, two of my favorite things to do in my back yard are tending to my garden and throwing something tasty on the grill to BBQ.

The meal above is a perfect example of the magic a grill can create.

I have a good friend named Spencer, and he is what most would probably call a homesteader. In fact, if he didn't already have so much on his plate, I would try to get him on the platform. I think he would find a good home here.

In addition to keeping bees, having a huge garden, canning, making soap, and a handful of other things, he also raises chickens. He has some that he keeps just for eggs and then he has others that he butchers for food.

He happened to give me one the other day, and last night mrsbozz@mrsbozz decided it would be our dinner.

It is pretty obvious in the photo above that I have never grilled chicken with the skin on before. My wife isn't a fan of skin or bones, so usually the chicken we grill is void of those things. I didn't keep a close enough eye on it at the beginning and the skin got a little burnt. Since I was going to be peeling that off before we ate it, it wasn't a huge deal.

We also had some homemade mac and cheese cooked on the grill. I threw in a chunk of hickory wood to give the chicken a little bit of smoke flavor too.

My garden is doing pretty good so far this year. I have some moss growing at the top of the soil in my buckets, but I don't think it is going to be detrimental to the growth of the plants. My tomatoes (on the right) are coming right along as well as the bell peppers.

Additionally, my zucchini plants are really starting to come in. It looks like I have some weeding I nee to do around the perimeter of the bed. That grass is so invasive. It doesn't help that I didn't bother planting a garden last year. Nature kind of took over a little bit.

Here you can see my other two zucchini plants and the California pepper plant that I have going. It might be hard to see in the pictures, but all of the bucket plants are starting to have blooms on them. I think it will just be a matter of time before I have produce growing.

The fact that we haven't been camping as much this Summer due to the Covid-19 virus is both a blessing and a curse. It stinks because we really enjoy getting out and using our travel trailer, but it has also allowed us to spend more time at home. That gives us the opportunity to really appreciate our back yard and all of the joys it brings.

We found out recently that our insurance is going to cover the damage to the deck from the tree that fell on it. We were able to move forward with repairs and now we just need to replace the furniture items that were destroyed. That section of rail (which has been replaced here) really saved the rest of the deck from some serious damage.
