I like to cook, to eat, first of all! That's why I'm posting here, I think there are many of you who like to eat but may not be very experienced in the kitchen. You may not have the courage to start cooking. If you see me cooking you will understand that anyone can do the same, because I do not have a training as a chef, only hunger and experience help me prepare a food that can be eaten.

In the previous post I showed how I like to cook, I say again because I think you have not seen the blog:

I am interested in a food that can be made quickly, by anyone, and that will satisfy hunger. A tasty food reminiscent of food made by our parents or grandparents. A rustic food that does not seek to arouse hunger because of its sophisticated image.

A food that is tasty and smells good, for which you will be satisfied that you made it and ate it with family or friends.

Now that I have clarified "why" and "method" I will move on to today's recipe. Once again I must clarify that this is not a recipe in its classic term, it is a way of cooking, I present ingredients and a sequence of activities that will lead to a cooked and tasty food. A way of cooking that can be copied by anyone and... put on a plate!

Today about the sleeping duck that got in the oven.

A trip, far away, to the north of the country, where my brother lives, in the house of my childhood. He lives in the country and raises various small animals and poultry. When I returned home, I received two wild ducks as a gift. Ready to cook. I kept them in the freezer for a while and now it's time to cook them.

Why did I call this the Sleeping Wild Duck? Because I recently participated in a contest... Reflection Hunters Contest. A photo contest, and my photo was called The Sleeping Duck.

I saw a connection between my photo and the fact that I was preparing to put a duck in the oven.

Duck asleep... in the oven

Ingredient:

  • the duck (it can also be chicken, hen, goose or turkey)
  • carrot, potato, bell pepper, apple, tomatoes
  • salt and pepper

As I told you, I like to cook simple foods with few ingredients. At least the cooking should take a little time, in this case only baking in the oven takes longer.

Let's go! The aforementioned ingredients cut them into pieces not too large.

Put all the chopped vegetables and fruits in a pan, mix with a little oil (very little oil, because the ducks have a lot of fat that will melt) and a cup of water.

Over this bed of vegetables I put the duck and put some of the vegetables right inside the duck. Then grease the duck with a little oil and put salt and pepper everywhere.

Cover the tray with aluminum foil and put in the oven.

All these activities took very little time, no more than ten minutes. That's why I say I like to cook fast. Now I am free to clean the kitchen, to wash the dishes and knives used in this preparation process. My job is over. It remains from now on only for the oven to finish the food. It takes about an hour, if the rate was young, otherwise it can take up to two hours. It should be checked from time to time so that the vegetables do not burn. I, this time I kind of burned them, I wasn't careful enough.

The oven duck is very tasty, especially baked on cabbage.

Now, instead of cabbage I put potatoes, tomatoes, carrots and bell peppers. I saw this recipe on TV. This option is not better than the one with cabbage. This duck had less meat, instead a lot of fat. If you want to make this recipe, I recommend you make the cabbage version, ie the duck put on finely chopped cabbage. All the fat will drain on the cabbage and it will be delicious.

For me this was the first time I cooked this way, I learned from mistakes and next time it will be with cabbage.

I put quite a few photos during cooking, I often forget to take pictures when I'm too focused on food. However, I hope that the cooking method is clear enough that it can be copied if someone wants.

Because spring is in the air, it is approaching, I put these flowers that accompanied me in today's cooking.
