I'm feeling a bit nostalgic. I get this way sometimes... I can't say why or what does it but I just get in that mood to... think. This time I am pretty sure it's because I just got done watching the last season of The Office for what is probably the millionth time. My husband hates it. But I adore the show. At any rate, it got me thinking... Sometimes it's a dangerous thing.
Now, I can be nostalgic about many things when I get in these moods. I'll think back to my childhood, grade school, high school, my old friends, some family that I no longer speak with. I'll think back on easier times, times that I thought were hard but just look back and smile. But, just getting done with the office I thought back to times within my own career, and love life.
If you have ever seen the show - Jim and Pam - they would be the reason you would think of love - love them.
I was thinking back to when I started working. I worked at Walgreen's in the cosmetic's department. I formed some friendships, one great. She became my roommate for a year... That year of my life, living on my own was awesome. I had my best friend at the time to hang out with whenever I wanted to - because she lived with me. It was also hard because she was a MESS. Then I moved back home for personal reasons and I forgot about her - life changed - and so did we. I wonder where she is.
During that year with her though we both got jobs at Boston Store. Her in her purse department and me in the cosmetic department. We wanted a change but thinking back we might have been closer had we stayed at Walgreen's. At any rate, I don't regret that change. I formed so major bonds during my four years at Boston Store at the Lancome counter. I was a good makeup artist. I still am... at least when I can do makeup. I met some amazing people... I'm facebook friends with some... One was even a brides maid in my first wedding. I still think about them a lot. But I moved on to bigger and better things.
I then got let go because it was the rescission and they were doing cut backs. I was one of their top sales people but because of what was going on with my Mom they saw me as a liability. I was gone. Horrible feeling to be let go during such a hard time, but I persevered.
A friend of my dad's told me about a part time position at the car dealership he worked at. I thought... what the hell. Why not? I started there part time and moved into full-time. Now I am 9 years in. I've made amazing friends. Honestly? I consider some of them family. My boss for instance, she was my friend before she became my manager. I am now her assistant manager oddly enough. She helped me through my divorce, she was there when I got remarried and she is there though anything else I go through. She understands my hardships with my family and I can really turn to her, as a friend, for anything. My best friend used to work there - I wish I knew during those times she'd be leaving the company and I wish we could have kept her but if you know my best friend, you know the stars are NOT the limit. She does anything she puts her mind to. But she is my rock. No matter how much time goes between conversions we pick up where we left off. We are and will always be friends. She will literally drop anything and be there for me. She's special, all because of my job. My current husband was my best friend before I married him. I got him a position where I work, he's now going on 9 years also. I never thought, at the time, I'd be married to him, but I am damn happy I am.
Looking back at all of this and thinking about the good times just makes me wish I knew they were the good times while in them. Now, I know I have many more that will come because I have an amazing life, but looking back, I kind of wish I could take a step back and do it all over again.
Creed Bratton from The Office says it best in the last episode: "It all seems so very arbitrary. I applied for a job at this company because they were hiring. I took a desk at the back because it was empty. But, no matter how you get there or where you end up, human beings have this miraculous gift to make that place home."
I guess that's enough rambling for the evening. My husband's home and I think I want to live in this moment. Goodnight all!
