Chicken or Egg Part 2 "THE GREAT HATCH"

In Part 1 we discussed what came first the Chicken or the Egg, and I told you my neighbor was raising Japanese Quail in his yard. Well he is back from his vacation and has started breading the birds, so here goes some documentation of urban ranching.

First you have to get some eggs laid that have been fertilized by a male, then you gather those eggs and move them into a incubator.

You can see that it is set for about 99 degrees Fahrenheit, after about 17 to 19 days. Boom out comes a bird if everything was done right.

They are about the size of 2 quarters when they hatch, and he keeps them in a aquarium in his closet. He does have a small heat lamp to keep them warm. At first he feeds them a turkey food, because of the protein that the birds require. This is one of the only things he actually buys for the birds, he grows most of the other food. Will show you that in the next post. This whole operation is done in his closet.
