Resilience, yoga and life
Hello my dear friends of Emotions & Feelings and all Hive, it's been a while since I've been here and I wanted to share a reflection. It is about resilience, a term that although it has entered a special boom during 2023, it has been in society for many years.
Some of you may have already heard about it, others may not yet. Just in case, resilience is that quality that we people have to overcome adverse situations and continue with our lives, basically.
Not all people have the same resilience and it is something that can be modified with the passage of time. That is, you may have more resilience now, and later have fallen into a certain vulnerability and have to rebuild it. Or on the contrary, you may have hardly developed this sense of resilience today and with the passage of time you may become stronger and stronger, to the point of becoming an extremely resilient person.

When are we resilient then?
I was thinking about this the other day, and I came to the personal conclusion that we need this quality in many moments of life, because in the end there are always challenges.
And it is not only about positioning oneself from a place where one "must go out", "must overcome" a situation, because unfortunately that position, places us in a place below "some other space" to which we should aspire. And I don't think that's what life is about.
In the book I am reading, "Inner Engineering" by Sadhguru, the Indian master tells us that in the mind there are 4 dimensions. One of them is Buddhi, which is the ability to discern. It is what basically allows us to know that a pair is a wall and not a door through which we can pass. But what has happened is that we have become so identified with this ability that we actually want to divide everything.
This reading led me to the word resilientes and this need to "overcome", which indicates that we are "down", when instead of seeing adversity as such, we could be thinking that it is a learning moment.
It is not a stumble, it is not a fall, it is not a loss. It is life. The famous saying "not everything in life is rosy" is very true. We are very comfortable with life when everything goes well and when we are comfortable, but when something goes out of that space of absolute security, we start to wobble and then we start to resort to an endless number of words, terms, phrases, readings, that help us to get out of that unpleasant and sad situation.
But we don't realize that this "down" moment is simply part of life. It is just another experience. We don't like it because it has modified our apparent order, but it is an experience that sooner or later would happen, in one way or another, with one or another protagonist.
Sadhguru also speaks of Ankara, which is the identification with something, and tells us that in life we identify ourselves with thousands of things. That I like this, that, that I have such and such a nationality, that I love someone, that I was born in such and such a family. So it tells us that in this way we begin to have a very biased view of reality, which really has none of this.
Theory applied to life
I know, this may sound very nice to read but very difficult to apply. And I read it and try to apply it, but usually I keep falling into identifications, attachments and so on. Some I detect and let go of, some I detect and realize I'm not ready to let go of and others simply occur in my subconscious and I haven't even accessed the knowledge yet that I have a certain attachment to something.
However, I think this is a very good thing to share, because in some way it allows us to work on this resilience not from the desperation of having to recover a certain balance or avoid a blow, but from the tranquility that in the face of an unexpected experience that comes to remove something (or someone) from our life, we have the possibility of approaching the situation with tools that allow us to continue being a complete human being, capable of regenerating a state of balance lost by being suddenly removed from its comfort zone.
In this context I would like to mention that meditation and Yoga allow us to find a certain calmness in the mind. How? Well, by performing physical postures in a conscious way, with a mastery of breathing (which is also carried out in a conscious way), added to a moment of stillness of the body where we seek to observe the thoughts that pass through the mind without identifying with them; all this leads us to a certain state of stillness where instead of feeling that we are falling into some pit, we can see the tools and resources we have at our disposal to address the situation that we are living.
I hope this reflection has been useful to you, my friends!
