Saturday walk along the banks of the Manzanares River (Eng - Esp)
Greetings, fellow nature lovers! I wish you all an excellent and blessed week. It is a pleasure to share my Saturday excursion along the banks of the Manzanares River. Last week, while running errands in this part of the city, I took a break to walk along the river and admire its beautiful scenery. I enjoy exploring this area because of the incredible views it offers and the large trees that line the path. The Manzanares River flows through the city from north to south, passing by the city center and the area behind Guaiquerí Park, before continuing on a long journey to the La Boca sector, where its waters finally empty into the Caribbean Sea.
As you pass through the city center, the scenery is spectacular—especially along the stretch between Avenida Aristiguieta and Avenida Humboldt, where Ayacucho Park is located. The path is lined with various plants, including large ceiba (kapok) trees that provide shade and a cool breeze. For the convenience of visitors, there is a concrete walkway that begins at the Gómez Rubio bridge.
Following that path, I walked until I reached Avenida Bermúdez at the Guzmán Blanco bridge. Along the way, I stopped several times to observe the plants, the river, and a partial view of Guaiquerí Park. The ceiba (kapok) trees stand out for their large, curiously shaped roots. In this area, there are also two footbridges connecting the park to the aforementioned avenue. One of them—a small footbridge accessible from the park—is painted with colorful stripes in black, yellow, blue, white, and orange. From here, one can also see the Guzmán Blanco bridge and the trees lining both sides of the river.
Further along, the park’s staircase and walkway meet the river. Here stands a massive, lush ceiba tree, its branches spreading across the ground to provide shade for visitors and shelter for the animals that inhabit the park. In this spot, you can see a section of the river, the tree’s reflection in the water, and parts of the park itself. Continuing on, there is another ceiba tree along the riverside path, as well as some lily plants and a few park administrative buildings. Finally, one can see the second footbridge, which features zigzagging stripes in black, green, orange, and pink. Both bridges share a green railing along the top and are accessed from within the park. Rather than a standard bridge, this structure serves more as a viewing platform—it does not lead to the avenue, but instead features a single staircase within the park for entry and exit. Situated in close proximity, the banks of the Manzanares River and Guaiquerí Park offer a beautiful setting for nature lovers and those who enjoy outdoor walks; it is an ideal place to relax while strolling and taking in the natural surroundings, right in the heart of the city.
Blessings!
¡Bendiciones!
