Seedlings

Our Seed Sprouted!

IMG_2164.jpg

A few days ago I decided it was time to start a couple colder weather plants. Namely Broccoli, Cabbage, Brussel Sprouts and Cauliflower. I am planning on having one row of Cabbage of 16 plants, and two rows of the others totaling 32 plants.
I built a "seedling" table several years ago that I still use today. Here is a pic of it as I was cleaning it up getting ready to start seeds.

We filled the starter trays with peat moss and added seeds.

We placed the trays on top of our seed warmer, and watered well placing the lids on to keep the moisture and heat in.

We had seeds start to sprout in two days.

I removed the lids over night so the tops could dry out a little because I didn't want mold or fungus to grow.

I should have planted the seeds a little deeper then surface sown but i'm adding a little dirt and covering them as I go.

I am watering them through the reserve (the tray the seed containers are setting in) and with a spray bottle. After a week or so I will remove the seed warmer and start using a grow light.
