It has nearly limitless applications, and for all intents and purposes, you could boil it down to “this is the next internet”.But we’re going to try to do just a little bit better than that here. By the end of this read, you should have a (slightly) clearer picture of just what a blockchain is — as it pertains to gaming. What is BitGuild?

Did you know that your in-game items, equipment, currency, and even your accounts in traditional and free-to-play games are not owned by you? Through common Terms of Service (TOS) agreements, all assets relating to current games are owned and controlled by the companies that develop them. This means that if the game ever shuts down, or if you should choose to move on to a different game, all the time and money you spent and the progress you’ve achieved could be lost forever. On the BitGuild platform, everything you earn in-game belongs to you and exists securely on the blockchain. As long as you control your private key, passphrase, and any secure information tied to your wallet, everything you’ve collected while playing is owned by you.
Wallet
The BitGuild wallet is the first of its kind. It essentially acts as your inventory for all games that you play on the platform. Not only will it display your current PLAT balance and transaction history, it will also show all of the items and in-game assets that you possess from the games you’ve played on the BitGuild platform. Your wallet, along with the BitGuild Virtual Asset Exchange, will act as a central hub allowing you to safely to put an item up for sale, view existing offers for purchase, or make a trade with your friends.
Since every item in our games will be tokenized, they are closer to being a real-world item than ever before. This could lead to new and previously unthought of forms of emergent gameplay. We believe players will create Alliances, Guilds, and Clans dedicated to seeking out legendary treasures within all of the games on the platform. This also paves the way for community content contests, tournaments, and developer-to-player interaction through digital, yet tangible rewards.
Design House
The BitGuild Design House will help solve the problem of funding in the video game industry. As projects form and require cash to get started, instead of looking for venture capitalists and investors, they will instead look towards player communities. Through the BitGuild Design House, companies can submit detailed plans about their game; highlighting information about development timelines, story, features and more. Players can review all submitted plans and choose to contribute to their favorite projects using PLAT. When a game reaches its goal, development funds can be securely transferred via smart contract over the blockchain. If a game doesn’t reach its goal in a specified amount of time, all PLAT is returned to the contributing players. Much like Kickstarter, companies can offer incentives to its stakers for meeting goals and getting funded.
