Many times, if not all, art makes me see beyond what appears to be, capturing a message or a background that the artist wanted to capture. A very special language.
Immersing myself in the raging waves of the sea of art, I was able to descend a staircase and discover works that caught my attention and in which I could see details that I really liked.
There are many different forms of art and within painting there are many styles. And within each of them, each artist always gives the painting his or her personality, capturing ways of being, energies, thoughts and transmitting emotions.
One can at first glance see nothing in a painting or not understand it, but by taking some time one can find very interesting things. That is what makes some people see certain forms and other people see totally different ones. It also depends, I think, on the interior of each person.
Here are some works that caught my attention from a very varied and interesting exhibition.
These two works below belong to the artist Maria Helena Vieira da Silva, in which she mixes lines in a very special way, generating different shapes depending on whether one looks at each of them from near or far. Shapes that are superimposed in a very informal art, using perspective to generate spaces and depths. Spaces that can be physical or mental with an abstract touch.

Often the constructions or cities are seen in the strangest ways, but almost all of them coincide in their geometric forms, and to really know what the work meant I had to look at the poster that described it. It is a work by the artist Vera Pagava.
The Great City, 1959.
This is a clear example of a work that in appearance and seen from afar simply looks like a street or a neighbourhood, but if we go deeper into the details and the scenes we can see much more, like that woman with a cat, where only their shadows can be seen and they walk through a passage where the rest of the people cannot. I really liked that detail.
The artist's name is Natalia Goncharova and it's a singular work where it seems that the buildings overshadow the human beings who are very small in comparison, but there are details there. And among that city view there is a place to escape from all that, a secret passage.
A city, 1911.
In the case of this work I was struck by the texture, as the materials with which it is made generate relief. The artist is Yolanda Fievre and in the work she uses wood, thread, minerals, bark, sand and paint. All this forms a spectacular mixture of colour and an extraordinary texture.

This is an example of a work in which I stare at the scene and what it conveys to me, apart from admiring how well executed the brushstrokes are, the reflection of the water or the sun, depending on how you interpret it, the tired people waiting, exhausted, where their thoughts wander in their reverie. The artist is Serban Savu.
The Waiting Room, 2016.
In this case the artist, Jaward Al Malhi, reflects a personal experience, and his work refers to it, to a refugee camp. Here he speaks of solidarity, of help on a path where uncertainty about the future reigns.
Measures of Uncertainty XIV, 2014.
This work shows an interest in organic life. An artist, Magdalena Abakanowicz, who works with different materials such as wool, flax, hemp and sisal with dyes. There I see a cocoon opening as if to give rise to something new, a butterfly that is going to spread its wings towards change.

This last work is striking for the textures that I have been able to appreciate and the materials such as wool, viscose, cotton, prints, pigments and others. The artist is Otobong Nkanga and he expresses the theme of territory, of colonialism in Africa, its impact in a huge and beautiful tapestry. Figures linked by a rope as if everything is united and intertwined. It also expresses the networks that bind the world together and dominate it.
The Weight of Scars, 2015.
It has been a great show in that Pompidou museum, which is also symbolised by geometric figures with lots of colour and which always brings wonders for people to admire and appreciate art and its meaning and perhaps also to discover its hidden messages.
