Everyone who knows me knows that I love horses; in fact, if I could, I’d have one. They are such noble animals and have always been present throughout human history; they even sense human emotions. The horse represents me; it is one of my two power animals, or spirit animals, that are most prominent within me, alongside the panther. Lately, I’ve been watching lots of videos of horses, especially my favourites: the Friesians. I think that’s what inspired this design, although I’m never short of inspiration when it comes to creating designs featuring them.
I remember when I was studying video editing; I made a video using several free clips I’d found, and I absolutely loved doing it. To me, they represent elegance, strength, magic and mystery, but above all, freedom, and it’s this last word that’s always very much at the forefront of my mind. Whenever I think of horses, ‘freedom’ is the word that springs to mind, as does epic music; I’ll always associate the two. I was delighted with the final result I achieved.

Process in pictures - Proceso en imágenes
Design process
The design was created entirely in Photoshop CS6 without the use of AI, using 10 royalty-free images spread across 12 layers.
To create the background, I used four images: one of watercolours in shades of pink; one of a background with stronger colours, particularly orange, on which I applied the ‘Overlay’ blending mode; then an image of clouds, of which I used only a section; and an image of the sea, from which I removed the sky and replaced it with the clouds mentioned earlier. For both of these images, I used the same blending mode as mentioned above.
I then worked on the three images of horses, which feature several horses; I selected them freehand, softened the edges so they weren’t so sharp, and then placed them in the design in different positions and scales, using the ‘Spot Light’ blending mode.
For the image of the horse on a black background with the horse in pink, I processed it using the ‘Difference’ blending mode and adjusting the colour via ‘Image > Adjustments > Hue and Saturation’, plus an ‘Added Edges’ filter. I applied the same filter to the previous horse images.
I worked on the image of the woman’s face across two layers: one showing just the eye in Normal mode, and the other using the Spot Light blending mode. I also used the Add Edge filter. Finally, I worked on the image of the colourful horse by adjusting its colours via Image > Adjustments > Hue and Saturation. I worked on it across two layers, using the Darker and Normal blending modes, but with the Diffuse Glow filter applied.
I send you all a big hello and see you next time.
Thanks for watching and reading this far.
