Greeting friends.
Just yesterday, in a conversation with @nelinoeva, I said that I began to see yellow wagtails often in the summer, which I had never seen in our region before.
Today I showed photos of this bird to my son and he even argued with me that it was not a wagtail. He, like me, is used to seeing a gray-white ordinary wagtail. He is a hunter and he is interested only in commercial large birds.
In our region, the weather has been dry for about 2 weeks, but the north wind has been blowing for the last 5 days, which brought us autumn cold. I want to say that when it doesn't rain, I walk with my dog towards the river along a small path that runs through small bushes of wild rose and willow. Every day during this walk I see 2 yellow wagtails. It is likely that they have a nest not far from the path, and today 2 these brave little birds flew around me and screamed loudly.
I took these photos yesterday. It was sunset time and the Sun was already low over the horizon. Today the sun is not visible in the sky, because it is completely cloudy like in autumn. Yesterday the wind was very strong, the birds sat on thin branches and swayed. Do you see, friends, how the wagtail has spread its tail? Thus, she tried to keep her balance and not fall off the branch.
But even during a strong wind, a lot of insects were circling above me. Birds caught the insects right on the fly, but did not eat them, but took them to the nest to feed the chicks. I wouldn't even have seen it without a camera.
It seems to me that birds land on trees only at the moment when they have already caught some flying bug. I have never seen these yellow birds within the settlement, I see them only in the green valley. In towns and villages, you can find an ordinary gray-white wagtail. She always finds food from the ground. As a child, I often met them on the bank of a small river, on which I loved to fish.
It seems that these birds differ only in the color of their plumage, they even have the same name, but they are completely different birds in behavior, each of which has its own food niche in Nature.
It can also be said that the yellow wagtail is more talkative than its gray relative.
